I know that most police officers are initially hazed when they first join. But what I am concerned about is that I am gay and think I will experience increased hazing. A little about me. Even though I am gay I don’t make a big deal about it. (I will tell people I am gay, but will not divulge my personal life [unless asked directly.] Not very flamboyant (Scale 1 Least to 10 Most) I am 3 and occasionally 4. But moving on I was just wondering if anybody knows the degree of hazing I would experience.

Responding to C's comment. I will consider your suggestion once you can cite a mainstream psychological organization that view my homosexuality as a metal disorder. I encourge you to review the DSM-IV TR published by the Americain APA. And if you belleive that the American APA is bias I suggest that you try to find the World Healths Organization ICD-10 code that catagorizes my affection for other men as a true disorder.

Yeah, as a newbie may well be the target of practical jokes etc. so brace yourself! It won't be because of your sexuality, it'll be because you are a newbie.

Since you don't make a big deal about it, don't bring it up. Most of your fellow Officers are going to judge you on what kind of a Police Officer you are and how you get along with them.

Trust me, if you prove yourself to be a good Officer, no one is going to give a flying crap about the fact that you're gay.

Because of your "protected status" as a homosexual you'll probably be spared hazing thanks to potential lawsuits and what not.

This is a problem its self though. Can't be one of the boys if you didn't go through the same thing they did right?

I'd say cut back the flamboyancy to a 0 until you pass the academy, FTO and then probation, then ease it back up.

I think people should be ashamed of being gay. Gayness is like a disease attacking humans and turning respectable men into dirty animals. You arent a bad person, you just need help. There is a reason why you turn to men, and a psychologist could help you resolve that.
Police shouldn't be mean to you because of it, they should take you somewhere that can help you get better. Next time a police officer is hurting your feelings tell him you need help, and ask him to help you find help. good luck

I hope you are not "hazed". Law enforcement needs more diversity in hiring applicants.
Cheers

GO TO SAN FRANCISCO. (LARGEST GAY COMMUNITY IN THE US)
NOTHING CRUDE AGAINST YOU, BUT THE POLICE I HAVE MET AT CONVENTIONS OVER THE LAST 42 YEARS ALWAYS SAY THAT SAN FRANCISCO IS LIKE A BOWL OF MIXED CEREAL, YOU HAVE THE NUTS AND THE FRUITS ALL THROWN TOGETHER.
