I love 'em all BUT I would never own a pit. They can be sweet for years and then turn on you. There are too many other breeds to take a chance like that.

I think they are GREAT DOGS but NOT for everyone. They do take strong, experienced, and responsible owners. We have a Pit Bull now and have had many Rottweilers in the past. They are all great, loving sweet dogs. Currently I know 13 different Pit Bulls and 8 Rottweilers that are part of our Doggie Social Group, and ALL of them are sweet dogs, with NO problems. They were and are raised and handled right. My Labs are more aggressive then my Pit Bull. It all depends on the dog and its raising, You can not judge an entire breed based on a few that were not raised right, There are NO BAD DOGS just BAD PEOPLE>

Just two different types of dogs. Pit Bulls are generally very friendly dogs as are Rotties. Both can be trained to be aggressive. Most people fear Rotties because of their huge head looks scary. I've asked many a vet about these (and other breeds) as well as animal control officers and neither as a rule mind them. The one breed that seems to not be liked so much by both is the Chow Chow and that is mainly because they tend to have a low pain threshold, not because they are hereditarily aggressive.

Hold on to your seat belt this question is going to be a bumpy ride. HAHAHA
I love a well trained and socialized dog of any breed mixed or otherwise.
It's the owners who give them a bad reputation along with the media.
Own a Pit Bull, not my first and hope not my last. They are people please rs, loyal to the end. Sweet FAMILY dogs. Known several Rots, think the same way about them.
The only way to change peoples minds about these dogs is bring the up right. Training, socializing and treat them like family. And above all only people who can match the power and attitude of these dogs should even try!

It all depends on how you raise them. People would be surprised to know how sweet, smart, affectionate and family appropriate a Pitbull or Rottweiler can be if raised correctly. The best thing to do is raise them in a safe and loving environment from the time they are a puppy. Otherwise, you don't know how they might have been treated in the past, and you're taking a chance. These dogs are really misunderstood. They get a really bad rap but there are many other breeds of dogs that are just as dangerous. Its sad, but true.

Pit Bulls and Rotties are like any other dog. Temperment has to be considered, but it's how they are raised that really counts towards behavior.
I worked in a dog kennel for about a year. While I worked there, we had a "regular" that came in everytime his master was out of town. He was a huge young Rottie. His master bought him to protect his young beautiful wife, whom was terrified of the dog. And the dog knew it too. He was use to throwing his weight around quite literally, and pretty much had terrorized the staff at the kennels as well.
When I came on board, I was elected to take care of this over grown puppy. After a few days I had him sitting whenever I came to his kennel, and he would stay seated to be served, or he would not get his meal when everyone else was eating. He hated that. He walked on lead like a real gentleman as soon as I showed him I could throw my weight around too if need be. He was starved for attention. When I showed him what it took to get my attention and love, he was glad to comply. Too bad his owners did not figure this out.

I think they are great dogs as are all other large breed dogs and mixes that some are putting on lists that endanger the breeds or ban them outright. That's beyond sad. You were fortunate to have grown up around those big ole bad dogs- lol- the ones that licked you to death I am sure.
The future may make it hard to own anything legislators deem a risk. It could even come down to the ankle biters! After all, there are documented cases of both a Yorkie and a Pomeranian that have killed people.
More kids are killed in bicycle accidents than by dogs each year. Way more. Maybe bicycles should be banned. Maybe ban motorcycles altogether. Ban skateboards. Parents have killed their own kids a whole lot more than dogs have killed people, so maybe we should ban human breeding without genetic testing, authorization and inspection, demand sterilization of defectives and euthanization of people deemed defective and a burden to society. Hitler meets the 21st century..
I am against eugenics and genocide whether against people or animals in general, or against a race of people or a breed of dog.

I used to have a Rot. He was great and I would have another. The problems with these dogs are usually the owners. People do not properly train their dogs and they let them run wild. All dogs can be made to be mean and all dogs can be great pets. It all depends on how they were raised and how they were trained.

Pit Bulls have a bad reputation for being viscious but then again so do blondes for being stupid. Pit Bulls are a product of their environment just like everyone else. If you bring them up in a fighting environment then they are going to fight. Love them and they will be lovers.
