I drove right thru town this evening past 2 gas stations and forgot to get gas. How stupid am I? My gas guage is about 1 mm from the orange bar and the ding thing has not come on to tell me to get gas. How many more miles do I have. I have to drive 5 miles to town to get gas. Will my Jeep Liberty make it to the gas station?

The distance will vary depending on the driving conditions and the way the car is driven. Light throttle will stretch the miles. Usually the reserve is about 2 gallons.
Example: Approximately 15 MPG X 2 gallons, Approximately 30 miles plus or minus 5 miles.

Depends on how you drive. But you run that low on fuel too many times and you will be replacing the fuel pump. Never run a fuel injected vehicle below 1/4 of a tank or the fuel pump starts picking up sediment from the bottom of the fuel tank. Also keeping at least 1/4 of a tank of fuel in the tank helps keep the fuel pump from overheating.

The warning signal will come on when you have about 3 gallons of fuel left in the tank. If you have the owner's manual to your vehicle it would tell you this.

If it tells you that you are out of gas(meaning that you get the light and dinger), you probably will be ok. A jeep gas tank if famous for the 2 gallon reserve. All Jeeps get differant mileage so plan on about 2 gallons.

I don't know lets find out,run it till it quits and tell us how far it went then next time some one asks this question we can tell them. Why wait for the car to tell you when to put gas in just fill it up at 1/4 tank that's what is recommended running on empty all the time is bad all the fuel pump causes it to over heat because there isn't enough gas in the tank to keep it covered and operating at a cool temperature.

the jeep my neighbor has he said it would go about 35 miles and then run out,he found this out the hard way,but his was right on empty when it ran out also, you may have more left on it than that ,i always use 50 miles as a guide on these, and never go past that point, you should have enough to get you back to a station though, hope you don't run out in it,good luck.

In my Explorer, I had 25 miles from the point the light came on.

Is it the check fuel light? You should make it the 5 miles.

The answer is yes..but when you fill it up and fill it full.
Note the number of gallons you fill it to, take away one gallon for the neck and safety, Look in your owners manual for the max fuel capacity. Subtract what you just put in less one gallon, from the rated capacity. The difference is what you have left and is good for future referance.
Good Luck

Carry a can of gas with you, drive it until it dies, then you'll know.
