I am considering getting an industrial. I am not the piercing type (just my ear lobes) but I have always thought industrials look so awesome.

What can I expect in terms of pain? I know pain is different for everyone. I can handle pain much more than the thought of it. I have little ears and the cartiledge there is not very thick. Will that make a difference? Will gauge make a difference in pain?

Thanks.

They are really sweet piercings.

Depending on your pain tolerance, I really can't say. It may feel like a hard pinch, but it should be over and done with, within 8 seconds.
Make sure you get a LONG bar, so that it'll cater for swelling and won't hurt like hell. Trust me.
And once 4 weeks are over, you can get the proper size.

Because you have small ears with not very thick cartilage, I think the pain would be less, in my opinion.

Do Sea Salt Soaks too.

I would say cartilage is definitely not as bad as getting a conch or rook. I have my rook done, hurt about fifty times more than any of my cartilage piercings. Cartilage hurts maybe for a moment or two, but in my experience the adrenaline you get from fear of pain helps a lot.

The worst part will be healing, where you have to watch out for stuff that'll hurt your ear, because it's going to be really tender. The worst parts for me were accidentally answering the phone on the pierced side, and finding a way to sleep without the pillow pushing against the piercing.

Well, the piercing is painful because it is through the cartilage and it is two holes instead of one so it is pretty intense, but it is worth it. Normally, the gauge of the piercing is 14 G and I assume the thinner the cartilage the less pain. The healing process takes at least 3-6 months. After six you can tug on it without hurting. I hope that answers your question. If you really do want the piercing, nothing will stop you.

It doesnt hurt as bad as most people say it does. From my experiance (I just had mine done a little over a month ago) it hurt, of course, but the piercing itself was not more than a prick, more or less. The pain was the most intense the week -after- it was pierced. It takes a number of months to heal. All in all, I would say that for as awesome as the piercing looks, its completely worth it. Dont let a few moments of pain get in the way of that.

Cartilage piercings tend to be more painful, standard size is 14ga (1.6mm) thinner piercings tend to heal a bit faster, but then the jewellery is very small, so Id recommend standard.
Can take 6-12 months to fully heal, but any pain will subside after around 2 weeks as long as you look after it.
Standard healing applies, sea salt soaks twice daily tend to do t good. Dont handle it with dirty hands, keep the bar clean and dont twist it unless your cleaning it etc.
As for your ears being thin, it can make a difference, however it wont be much, it is a fast procedure and isnt as bad as most think, and I personally love mine, highly recommend it.
Hope that helps, good luck.
