Yes he is. He hasn't done anything news worthy this season but leave DEI. Mabye a new team will help put him first across the finish line. But I doubt it very seriously.

No, drivers like Kyle Bush, Kevin Harvick and Juan Pablo Montoya are equally overrated. I don't know who rates Jr too high anyway. I will give you that many of his fans DO overestimate his ability but bear in mind, he is a top 10-15 driver out of 50+ others in most people's opinion.

Sorry don't agree. Dale is an awesome driver, he's had a terrible year, and next year I think will be his year. I sure hope he proves me right, and you wrong. I think he's great.

I would have to say he's pretty good at it. 2 Busch championships while being a Busch driver not like today's wannabe "I can't win a cup champ so I will beat up on those poor under- funded Busch guys" cup driver.

looks like most of your brain child's, yes answer's are bashers or jealous. No prof to compare other drivers.

I would say when your asked to drive other cars in other series then you must be fairly good. The Rolex series is a pretty good bunch of drivers who fight for there championship just as hard an anyone else does.

I do think you maybe confused to with popularity and skill.

But like the one person said if anyone has watched the last several races he has been up front every race and DEI couldn't keep the car under him. His Dad would be furious if this happen while he was around. T hasn't made any moves to correct other than get people lined up for next year. And I'm not sure when the RCR engine deal is to happen or if it has. If it's started they are not any better than they were using befor or they aren't letting Jr use them.
This is all the time I am going to waste on this year long question asked by jr haters.

He's overexposed, not necessarily overrated. He's a decent driver - 2 Busch Series championships and 17 Cup wins on an inferior team isn't bad. But, the media uses him to boost their ratings and never shut up about him! Who else gets interviewed after a 17th place finish!?!

Overrated goes hand in hand with popularity. Before you can accuse him of being overrated, you must first delve into the reasons for his popularity:

Is he as popular as he is because he is the son of Dale Earnhardt. "Most definately."

Is it because Budweiser has been his sponsor (and we all know how popular Bud is amongst Nascar fans!)? "Most assuredly."

Is it because he is an attractive, blue collar symbol for the sport? I would venture to say, "of course".

Is he as popular as he is due to what he's done on the track itself? "Absolutely not."

He has not done a single thing in his career to make for a memorable legacy. Oh, excuse me, he's won the Daytona 500. Big deal - so has Harvick and we all can see how that's made him a household name.
When is the last time Jr.'s won a a race? 63, 64 races ago??? When is the last time he's made a difference in the outcome of a season? When is the last time he truly contended? Mattered?
No. Sadly, his "on track" performance is definately not the reason behind his popularity, and that is regrettable because that is the answer which most pointedly adds validation to the question; "Is he the most overrated driver ever?"

Given his track record versus the amount of coverage he gets and the size of his fan base, I have to say, "Yes, when all is said and done, and we are looking at his career in retrospect, I am absolutely positive we will view him as the most overrated driver ever."

If he were, he would not have been able to and drive his heart out with cars that had nothing to give! Give credit where credit is due. The better the equipment, the better the driver is perceived to be.

Wait til next year, give Jr. a chance to prove himself with good equipment that will last the entire race. Then see what you think.

Go Jr.>>>>

Well Junior is one of about 6 or 8 overrated drivers in the series today.
Some come in riding their family coat tails in getting their rides.Others come in from other series where they are tops of their game.
But there are more premadonnas today in "sports" of all forms. And the mindless that follow the press get brain washed on some of these sports figures as the greatest making them overrated.
So conclusion Junior is just one of the overrated.
I was a fan of Dale Earnhardt but did not, have not and will not jump on the Junior bandwagon for his name.

He's not overrated.....All the doubters will see this issue settled next yr, when you put Dale Jr in great equipment you will see what happens..Yes, he does get alot of attention.. He has been running up in the front in everyrace this yr when his crappy equipment crapped out....I'd say he is the king of bad luck right now....Yes, at HMS you will see his greatness, and will live up to the Earnhardt last name...

Go Dale Jr & HMS in 2008
