Well, a "Morkie" is not a breed, therefore there is no breed-standard and there are no breeding guidelines. It may resemble a Yorkie, or it may resemble a Maltese. Most likely it will look like a combination of Yorkie and Maltese traits ... for example, it may be built like a Yorkie, but have Maltese coloring, or vice-versa. This may be pleasing, or perhaps not.
As far as size, again, it's not a breed, so it's impossible to say. Since both Yorkie and Maltese are small dogs, I'd guess it will remain small, with the adult weight somewhere between the standard weights of the two breeds.
Temperament? Who knows? Again, it's all in how the genes fall. You might get a dog that looks Maltese, but acts Yorkie, or it might go the other way. Or maybe it will be a combination.
Breed standards exist for purebreds so there is a "right" ideal against which individuals of that breed are measured and evaluated. No breed, no standard, no way to predict the outcome.
If you want a mutt, the shelters have plenty to choose from.

As you stated yourself you know these are a breed of 2 diffrent type dogs. As a person who sees "Morkies" on a monthly basis in the shelters I can tell you, there is no definant way to tell how big the puppy will be or what characteristics a particular one in the litter will take on. Its a 50/50 chance. It really depends on the parents of the dog. If the mom is 5 lbs and dad is 7 then its not likely to get bigger than 7 lbs. If the mom is 15 and the dad 5 you will have a range all OVER the board in size and weight. As to the coloration that is a gamble, some pups will look like mom some will look like dad and some a great combo of both. So I would find a breeder that is some what decent (though I do NOT like MUTTS that you have to pay an arm and leg for when there are plenty of them rotting in the shelters every month) and really research the parents, then pick the puppy you will like best.

How will you know what your Morkie Will grow up to look like? I'm not sure that one can depend on a Morkie turning out any certain way or with a certain temperament. In time, that may happen but I don't see it as reliable info at this time.

There's nothing predictable about a mutt. You never know what you're going to get. Some people have wonderful "Morkies" that love to play and cuddle, some people have "Morkies" that are terribly shy and withdrawn. Some people have "Morkies" that pick up on commands in five minutes, some people have "Morkies" that chew up everything in the house. So...it's anyone's guess.

It's good that you've researched, but the mix you get could be any combination of Maltese and Yorkie traits - including size, temperament, trainability, and characteristics. Nothing is ever for certain with a mutt.

there is no way anyone can predict what a mixed dog will look like or what their temperments will be like.
yorkies have many different faces & have been so poorly bred for years that you could get anything when mixing.
I certainly hope you are not going to pay "designer" prices for a dog.
check for adults in rescue & shelters. that way you will know what you are getting.

If you are worried about how big one would get why not adopt an adult shelter dog. Then you would know for sure it's the size and temperment you want. I would check petfinder as well.
