An 18-year-old Smithville woman who gave birth to a child and then threw it away is in jail tonight in DeKalb County.
Lilinaa Elizabeth Sosa was charged with second-degree murder after giving birth Friday night in a Mexican restaurant and then throwing the child in the restroom trash can. Her bail is set at $1 million.Sosa, who is from Mexico, has been in the United States for about a month, Smithville Police Chief Richard Jennings said. Her employer at El Rancho Restaurant in Smithville had no idea she was pregnant, Jennings said.
A waitress discovered the child when taking out the trash two hours after Sosa gave birth, Jennings said. The child later died.
Sosa was taken to Cookeville Regional Hospital Saturday after an examination showed she had sustained life-threatening injuries after giving birth. She remained in the hospital until about 10 a.m. today, when she was released and subsequently taken into police custody.
Sosa’s first court date is Nov. 8, Jennings said.

If the woman is from Mexico highly unlikely she is legal. There is something very wrong here when any woman takes a life. A lot of Mexican women are meek and mild and are afraid if the hubby has another child to feed he will flee. There is no excuse to take a child's life, None

i think of that any answer to the unlawful immigration difficulty has to incorporate deportation after detention center sentences of each unlawful immigrant right here who's a criminal. No waivers in line with 'kinfolk reunification' such simply by fact the Dream Act could have had for them. even with the undeniable fact that, i do no longer think of a lot of them are throwing their newborns out with the trash.

There are many reasons the young woman may have acted this way. Fear, pain, helplessness, baby was a result of rape, etc. Since her own injuries were life threatening a day later she was most likely in shock 2 hours postpartum. Not to mention terrified and didn't know how to get help nor was anyone helping her to deliver safely in a hospital. I don't believe she should be in jail under the circumstances. It's time Americans wake up to our own ignorance and indifference when it comes to poverty, infanticide, postpartum illnesses and injuries suffered by mothers. Do something to help not hinder.

No, of COURSE she wasn't an illegal alien (sarcasm). She's eighteen, one-month here from Mexico, 9 months pregnant, working in a Mexican restaurant and her boss didn't know she was pregnant because either she looked permanently pregnant or her boss doesn't know how to tell.
Why, I'll bet both her mom and dad are international PhD business lecturers from Harvard and Todai!

OK.......I have read the story 4 times just to make sure I didn't miss anything.
Where in that story is this woman described as an illegal alien?Where is even the word "alien" (illegal or not), ever mentioned?
Yeah; that's what I thought.

It has nothing to do with her being an illegal alien. It is because people don't teach their children to respect and Love themselves, so why would they care for another human being? This happens all the time, with white, black, hispanic, asian, etc nationalities. Wherever there is teen pregnancy, there is going to be overreaction to a pregnancy that was unwanted or unknown about. It seems harsh, but the world is an effed up place now-a-days.

That's heartbreaking. I don't know why so many young mothers do that type of thing. It almost seems to be an epidemic anymore. Are they scared of telling their families or authorities? I don't know. But it's sad all the way around.

Because she is illegal and did not know what to do. I cannot hate on her when full blooded Americans are killing their babies and leaving them out in the elements to die. This question should not be in this section.

Dog Tricks...what do you mean about so many mothers doing this? This is not the kind of thing heard about everyday on the news...did you have a statistic for us?....Oh God!! Thanks for the link. I seriously didn't know this. I'm going to look for places in my area for this sort of thing to see how to help.
