Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference.

I didn't learn this prayer from AA. A friend of mine gave me a bookmark with this prayer on it.

I honestly can't see how the Serenity Prayer has anything to do with insecurity. It's very simple, the prayer is about:
1) Serenity
2) Courage
3) Wisdom
I would wonder why he is so threatened by that....... ;-)

it is actually not a very smart prayer. It is mostly rhetorical feely good and prayed without faith. AA was designed to provide religiousity without spiritual substance. Forget AA and its nonsense and turn to the fellowship of CHRISTians and let your prayer be prayed with faith and meaning. It is better to pray the LORD's prayer:

Our FATHER WHO ART in Heaven hallowed be THY name
THY KINGdom come THY will be done on earth as it is in Heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who tresspass against us lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for THINE IS the KINGdom and the power and the glory forever and ever Amen

I think it's just the opposite. You have to be secure in yourself to know what "things you can't change" are.... Insecure people tends to think EVERYTHING is an attack against them and they fight accordingly. Even without the religious context, this "prayer" is valid.

If it calms you, then what does it matter what your brother thinks? If it's not for him, then it's not for him. If it helps you though, or other people then I think your bf may be being a little bit judgemental.

he is an idiot and obviously doesn't know what or why it is used and doesn't have the wisdom to know the difference as the last line says....

It's actually a pretty logical approach to dealing with problems.

If you are a Christian, I would date someone who is a Christian themselves.

His comment is pretty clear what he is not.
