Sounds like you have all the makings of a great cop. Don't let the gay thing get in your way if its what you REALLY want to do. You will meet resistance from the old schoolers if you're openly gay though, count on it.

As long as you're not a "flamer" (Hollywood homosexual) with a limp wrist, a lisp and come to work in drag you'll be accepted by the younger upcoming guys.

We have homosexuals in my PD. Hell, some are female officers now, and its all good.

I say go for it.

Your sexual preference will not be a deciding factor as to whether or not you get hired. If you are already in the area, might be a good idea to enroll into an academy now. Goldenwest CC has a good program. Graduate in the top of the clas and you will be snaped up in by most cities in OC or LA county.

Good luck!

What a person's sexual orientation is has NOTHING whatsoever to do with whether or not they are capable of doing ANY job. What matters is their ability and desire to do the job they are seeking. I myself am not gay, but I do have a son who is and it irritates me to no end that people have the unmitigated gall to stand in judgment of the gay community. These young men and women are no different than the young men and women who make up the rest of any community. They have value as people. They love and want to be loved. They work just as hard as anyone else does to make their way in life. People need to realize that being different has NOTHING to do with being right or wrong. What matters is who we are on the inside. Sorry for getting on my soap box and preaching but ignorance/arrogance of society offends me to no end. Whoever you are, I wish you the best of luck and I thank you for your desire to help people.

I really don't think it would effect it at all. Your sexual orientation has nothing to do with how you perform your job. And I highly doubt they are going to ask you whether or not you are straight when they are reviewing your qualifications.

I know cops who are gay. If you can do the job, then I don't care who you sleep with while you are backing me up.
