Does anyone think that Jesus and God are mythological, in the sense that people often create explanations for things when they don't know the real reasoning behind an event. For example in ancient Rome and Greece, the people used to create gods for things such as thunderstorms and the Sun, just because they didn't know the real reasoning behind those events (thunderstorms- evaporation, temperature, etc. The Sun- the center of our galaxy with a gravitational field that holds all of the planets in orbit). This is in reference to people crediting God with the creation of the Universe and Jesus with miracles (I believe that miracles are phenomenon "Phenomenon- a fact or event of SCIENTIFIC interest susceptible to scientific description and explanation).

Jesus as we know him, is neither historical nor mythical, he's fictional. All the evidence suggests that the Jesus of the Gospels is actually an allegory for the Jewish people themselves, and what they went through around 70 CE.

That said, it's possible there was a historical person who's life was very loosely somehow weaved in with the story, but I see little reason to suggest that.

I believe they are "gods" created by man to explain the unexplainable to an illiterate population.

No one has EVER met or seen a god. No one. EVER.

To say one has "felt" of "experienced" God could be interpreted as an hysterical moment, a bi-polar episode or any number of chemically-induced reactions that humans have experienced before.

When I was a little girl, I truly believed I could appeal to Tinkerbell to grant me a wish. I was filled with a wondrous rapture, complete with sparkling stars and misty haze all around me and my young imagination literally convinced me that I was communicating with a magical fairy who could make my dreams come true. When I actually received the Barbie I had wished for at my birthday party, I was a true believer from then on, until I entered my teens.

Imagination mixed with emotion is very powerful and can make us believe the unbelievable. Such is the case for many people who follow religion today. Sad, but true.

Yes.

No one who was supposed to know him ever wrote a word about him, including scribes & other important people who comprised the tiny minority of literate people in that day, and who were recorded in the gospels as having been with him.

No one who wrote about him ever met him. Not the Gospel writers. Not Saul/Paul of Tarsus. Nobody. Period.

If such a thing happened today, would anyone believe it ?
What makes such a thing more believable that it was a long time ago? I am not anti-Jesus, am only meaning to point out the certitude of "faith" can hide an underpinning of a whole lot of nothing but empty assertion.

Just because a miracle, or anything else, can have a scientific explanation, doesn't mean it didn't come about by an act of God or by the grace of the living Christ. Jesus is definitely not a myth--He is quite real.

We know, scientifically, how and why a rainbow appears in the sky. The Scriptures tell us that God created it as a reminder that He would never destroy the earth by flood again; it was His promise to Noah. If God created the universe, then He also created science.

Some people are like that. But there are those of us who have had an encounter with God Who has changed our lives (for the better, I must add), and to those of us who have experienced God in our lives, there is no doubt that He exists.

Granted, I understand that there are many who have NOT experienced God's presence, but that does not preclude His existence, it merely indicates that they have not (yet) met Him.

To say that God doesn't exist simply because I have never experienced God would be the same as saying that YOU don't exist simply because I have never met you.

I must say, though, that it is quite amazing how that once you've met Someone, you can no longer deny His existence, as was the situation in my own case.

Otherwise, to insist that the universe be restricted by your limited experiences would be like the story of the guy who hated rainbows (don't know why), but he lived near a waterfall, and once a month or so, when the wind was just right, the sky would be full of rainbows. So, in any case, this guy who hated rainbows, went and poked his own eyes out so that when someone came along and told him to come outside to see the rainbows, he could say that rainbows don't exist, and when asked why he believed that, then he could say that he couldn't see any!

Like the song says, "I once was lost, but now I'm found; was blind, but now I see."

The Resurrection was the most thoroughly documendted event in ancient history. Jesus has a more thorough pedigree than Caesar. Ask ANY Historian.

It's fairly well established that historically, the legend of "Christ" was composed from fragments of earlier pagan cults of the "Dying God." There may also have been an actual upstart Jewish prophet, executed by the Romans for sedition, the record of whose life and death formed part of the basis for the gospel story. But all the miraculous and mystical elements of the Christian legend have their precedent in pagan mysteries, so in that sense "Jesus" is a syncretic myth.

I believe Jesus was a real human with real emotions and real sufferings. He made claims that would seem heretical to unbelievers. He also backed up His claims with healing sickness and bringing dead people to life. There have been no one like Jesus. He was here at the beginning and will return for the finale.

Every religion claims to be the only right one.
Therefore they are all false."

"Religion is known by the common as true,
the wise as false, and rulers as useful."

"Religion is a sanctuary for people who can't
think for themselves."

Why would god put you in life, with all of these religions,
having only one be right? Its like being put in a room with
1,000 doors, and having only one lead to heaven, and if we choose the wrong one we go to hell? Makes no sence. Religion is crap.

The bible is fantasy..and you don't believe fantasys...you enjoy them, think about them, learn a thing or two from them..but they are not meant to be taken seriously.

"Christianity;
The belief that a cosmic jewish zombie who was
his own father can make you live forever, if you
symbolically eat his flesh and telepathicaly tell him
he is your master so he can remove from the evil
in the world that exists because some rib woman was
convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magic tree...

Makes Perfect Sense."
