It does not say that in the Bible. The teaching of the original Christian Church on this subject is: The only thing that can send a person to hell is mortal sin (what John calls "sin unto death" - 1 John 5:16-17). In order for "sin unto death" - mortal sin - to occur, three criteria must ALL be present. (1) The act itself must be an objectively grave evil. (Suicide qualifies on that point.) (2) The one who commits the act must be fully aware of the grave nature of the act. (3) The person who commits the act must give his full rational consent to commission of the act. It is highly unlikely that someone contemplating the most irrational act of all - self destruction - is in a position to give full rational consent of his will. Therefore it would seem there is good reason to hope that people who die in this way might be saved, if they have otherwise tried to live according to the will of God. Therefore we do not judge people who commit suicide, but simply entrust them to the mercy of God.

Hi Ga Gal,
I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through, all I can say is that I am going to say a nice prayer for you and your father.
I did want to share this with you though.
I know since the New Testament, Jesus changed a lot of things because HE was now the savior and "NO SIN" was unforgivable! PLease remember that!! except for NOT accepting Jesus as your Lord and savior or blaspheming against the Holy Spirit. Jesus changed a lot of things babe .. HE wouldn't tell us these things for no reason. Your dad is going to be ok, but prayer is so powerful!!! so the Lord knows your pain and the person your father was. Jesus told us to Pray all the time because this is what GOD wants and how HE hears us, HE WILL hear you baby .. HE promised us that. HE also said HE would be with us til the end of time, that is the gift of the Holy Spirit HE put in us, until HE returns for us all. Please read the link below ok.
Take Care and God Bless

Our Son-in law's brother committed suicide about 2 years ago. I have watched his family (fundamentalist Christians) put themselves thru hell because of a belief that suicides are eternally lost!
It is an ignorant person that believes this! Only God can judge us, no matter how our life ends. And a suicide is a victim for many reasons. God knows this and will judge accordingly and fairly.....Blessings!

It doesnt say that anywhere. And those people that are judging should take a good hard look at themselves before they automatically assume your dad is in hell. Thats almost a sin in itself-to do the judging for yourself instead of leaving it in God's hands. My mother had the same thing happen to her. She lost her father to suicide when she was only 3 years old. He died one day before his last child was born. And almost a decade later, she lost her oldest brother (also her favorite sibling out of 12 of them) to suicide also. She never told her friends how her father died for fear of them judging not only her God-loving Christian father but also for fear of them judging her and her surviving family members. They started judging her brother when he died though, many assumed he was a maniac, a druggie, etc., none of which were true. People just need to grow up; saying infantile stupid comments like that.

They cannot because it's not there. My heart goes out to you. My wife lost her father to suicide a few years back and just as you described your dad, he was a loving and gentile man. God knows the struggles and reads the heart of all and He has promised to be a faithful and fair judge. I'm so sorry for your loss.

There is NO PLACE in the Bible that specifically says that you go to Hell if you kill yourself. Only God knows the heart and only God knows what was going on at the time. It is a topic that isn't really addressed in the Bible so many have speculated that either:
1. The person did not have time to repent for the "sin" of killing oneself, therefore they will go to Hell.
I don't believe this because what about car accidents? Maybe that person sinned before death and didn't have time to repent? I think God is the only judge.
2. Life is a gift given by the creator and by killing oneself, it is throwing that gift back in the creators face.
I don't believe this because no one knows what goes on in the mind or emotions of someone who kills themselves. I have depression issues that I struggle with and I know sometimes people do not have control of their actions because of mental defect. (That is why "not guilty by reason of insanity" is allowed as a legal defense)
Do not worry. God is loving and fair. He knows what was going on with your father even if no one else does. He takes everything into consideration and His decision will be fair! Don't listen to those who say this is his fate, they don't know. They can't know... .... Are they God? NO! so, know in your heart that your father is taken care of.

I have never read any where in the bible where it say that!!! Don't listen to people, they can be cruel. I lost my Dad to an illness in 04 and I can really sympathize with you, my Dad did not commit suicide, but, people will really say some cruel things when some one has passed away. So chin up, you never really get over it but it gets a little easier to deal with every day :) Reflect on the good times you two had together and not how he left this world

You have to know that your dad like everyone else In this world has the same choice to make about their eternal destiny. Jesus Is the only one that was able to give up His own Spirit.
We don't give life to our bodies,God does.
We can have the biggest heart In the world, but without Jesus Christ as our Lord & Savior It's all In vain.
There are two examples of this given In the Bible.Judas & Peter.
Peter denied Jesus 3 times.
Judas, sold Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.
They both ate, slept and traveled with Jesus for 3 years.
Peter repented,Judas hung himself.
You must know that everyone has a choice.
The Bible says that even the most righteous are as filthy rags.
You have control over your destiny,by Who you chose to serve In this life.
My heart goes out to you.
Nobody Is judging your father. We have God's word as our standard.
Only God really knows where your father Is. You strive for heaven and leave things like this to God.

It does not say anywhere in the bible. Catholics believe that because they believe that you chance going to hell everytime you sin. Christ died only once and when we place our lives in his hands, repent of our sins, and accept His sacrifice as payment for our sins, it's a done deal. We are forever His and sealed by the Holy Spirit. No one can pluck you from His hand. Saul, the first king of Israel killed himself and still went to heaven. Also, Paul discusses salvation and sin in Romans Chapter 5-8. If your father professed Christ as His Lord, he is with Him right now. It is a promise God made and He kept. We are saved by grace through our faith (Ephesians 2:8,9). The bible only states that there is one sin that will never be forgiven and that is blasphemy of God's Holy Spirit. I would pray that God will reveal His truth to these individuals.

I am extremely sorry for you loss, I lost my father when I was just 16 years old so I know it hurts......The Bible doesn't say you'll go to hell for suicide. But, it does say murder is sin. If you murder yourself, then you can't ask for forgiveness. You can't be forgiven of a sin until the sin is committed. So if you commit the sin of murder upon yourself, you cheat yourself out of forgiveness. The Bible also says there will be NO sin in Heaven.
