As a general rule the Irish Wolfhound is the TALLEST breed.. currently the tallest individual dog is a great dane.. (but percentage wise, IW's are often taller) However, they are not the heaviest of breeds.. (GD's are heavier than IW's, but still not the heaviest dog).. I believe the heaviest is a Mastiff Breed.. one of the older English ones I think.

Just a note however.. the tall breeds need some extra vet care as they grow.. and they stay puppies for years.. (they also have a shorter life span.. about 7-10 yrs)

Generally, the three breeds of dogs that are considered the largest are the Great Dane (tallest) Saint Bernard (heaviest) and Old English Mastiff (all around). With that said there are many breeds of dogs that can get just as tall and or heavy. For instance: Weimeraner, Irish Wolfound, Newfoundland, and Great Pyrennes.

The largest dog you can buy is an Irish wolfhound. They can be as tall as a full grown man.

well besides the obvious - dogs depend on their parents - Mastiff is usually the biggest.
I own Rotties & have seen some MASSIVE ones... Best to just decide what breed matches your lifestyle... Obviously you like big dogs ... then go visit breeders, etc. and see what is available.

English Mastiffs would have to be the biggest in terms of sheer size but be ware you need to be the epitomy of muscle, control, and determination to own one. You also need a DAMN good job to be able to afford one and to feed it. Also all the vet care and replacement objects.
