So you want the benefits of living in a free country; but are afraid to put your name on a list because you might get called to do your duty and defend your country if she needs you?

Look at it this way... you only have to sign up if you want to be a self-respecting man.

The Selective Service is the organization under the federal government responsible for maintaining and classifying individuals in the event of a draft. For instance,in the event of a draft, draftees are classified i.e, prior military service, medical deferment, no military service,etc.. There hasn't been a draft in over 30 years. The Selective service act states that all eligible males must register for classification at the age of 18.It is the law and you must comply, it can affect any current and future government entitlements that you may qualify for.Contrary to belief the Selective service is an entity separate of the U S military.I suggest that you register, it doesn't mean you will be in the military.

Yes, it's very real. When a male turns 18, you are required by law to register with selective service. It is basically a list of able bodied males that can be used during a draft for the military. Not to worry though. The draft hasn't been used since the Vietnam War. I would highly suggest you go ahead and get registered.

If you do not register, you will be in violation of Federal Law. It is law that all males when they turn 18 must sign up for selective service. This ensures that if the draft ever re-occurs, that you will be able to be called up. And there is no way out of it, other than giving up your citizenship, and leaving the country. And if you want to do that, well, then Bye.

And yes, the Website is real.

You are required by law to register for the Selective Service. Congress must start a Draft. There is not Draft. You are adding your name to a register that can be referenced in case a Draft is started. This simple act is your responsibility as a citizen. There is no cost to you and you will have full opportuntity to due process if and when a Draft is started.

Register, it's the law.

It is not the draft. We have no draft. You will not be drafted.

You got the letter, and the web address, now you have the best access to information on the Selective Service System.

ITs the draft plain and simple. I dont know why they're makin you sign something I just got my notification when I turned 18 that said I was now eligible for the draft. Its nothing to worry about. I wouldnt send them anything until someone contacts you because it can get fishy with fake sites and stuff like that. I wouldnt give them a damn thing, the site says the last time it was updated was months ago, thats not a Gov site as far as I know.

If you are male, then yes, you have to sign up. The safest way to do this is to go to the post office and sign up there. Actually I believe it is a card you have to fill out and mail.

Its the law. Been that way for long time now....
