Jobs three friends came to comfort him, and instead they are accusing him of having committed some sin to bring this on him. He has repeatedly told them that if he sinned, there should be someone to point it out.

He is saying that none of his friends are helping him, but they are in fact mocking him.

As for a "real life" application, perhaps this is one thought: it is the case that sometimes our friends are really not helping us; they can corrupt our morals with temptation, or cause us to stumble with bad advice. As well, they can be ineffective comforts to us. Friendship is good, but understanding the will of God is a greater comfort

Job is asking GOD to provide what he requires as Job knows he is unable and GOD alone can save him.his friends have abandoned Job and doubted his faithfulness to GOD and judged him as being deserving of all the ill that has befallen him,in fact Job was innocent of any wrong doing and GOD allowed this test on Job to prove Jobs love and loyalty to GOD. Satan had declared that Job only worshiped GOD because GOD had so richly blessed him but GOD knows the heart and he knew that was not true.it is quite a story of faith on Jobs part and you should read it all.bless you!

Job 17:1-13 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)

Job 17
1My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.

2Are there not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation?

3Lay down now, put me in a surety with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me?

4For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them.

5He that speaketh flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.

6He hath made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret.

7Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members are as a shadow.
