what do you mean you have narcolepsy during the day and insomnia at night? I'm a registered sleep tech. Have you had a sleep study done? How old are you? Maybe I can answer some questions for you. You should email me. If you had narcolepsy, you should have medications that will help regulate your sleep/wake cycle. There are some sleep disorders that have similar symptoms as narcolepsy, like sleep apnea. You'll be exhausted during the daytime and not able to sleep at night. If that is the case, than sleeping pills will make things worse, not better.

I've never heard of someone that has both narcolepsy and insomnia. Your doctor doesn't want to give you a script because most of the sleeping pills are controlled substances and very addictive. Have you tried taking the OTC choices, such as Benadryl and Unisom tablets? If you've tried those and you're still looking for something better, than try asking for a script for the new sleep aid called Rozerem. It is the first prescription sleep-aid that is not a controlled substance and shows no risk of dependency. Ask for that one and you may get it. As for the controlled substances, your doctor probably doesn't want to write a script for you or maybe doesn't like to write those kinds of scripts for anyone.

Sometimes Doctors feel that lack of sleep is caused by stress or tension and they usually will give you what your getting. It may be good to try Valerian root. It is used for many different reasons including sleep, as well as stress relief! Also ask your Dr. to recommend a sleep therapist. Good Luck!

You should try seeing another Doctor. If they are prescribing anti depressants and you don't think you need them, ask them why and tell them you would rather not take them. You shouldn't be taking medication you don't want to take!

Have you tried jos taking plain Tylenol PM? It is non-addictive and works really fast. I was even able to take it when I was pregnant.
