This is cheaper than buying a box of Hamburger Helper... and far less sodium! But you can add a can of drained corn and/or black beans to it to stretch it and add protein and fiber.
Skillet Lasagna (aka Hamburger Helper)
1 lb. lean ground beef
¼ cu p chopped onion
½ cup chopped carrots
1½ cups mafalda (mini-lasagna noodles or other pasta)
1½ cups water
½ tsp. Italian seasoning blend
2 cups marinara or other tomato-based pasta sauce
8 oz. fresh sliced mushrooms
1/3 cup or more shredded mozzarella cheese
Cook lean ground beef, chopped onion and chopped carrots in a Dutch oven on medium-high about 6 minutes or until beef is no longer pink. Drain. Stir in raw pasta, water, Italian seasoning, pasta sauce mushrooms. Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low; simmer, uncovered, 10 minutes or until pasta is tender. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and serve.

The cheeseburger helper with ketchup! Yummy!
(Also, try frying up some ground beef and mixing it with Kraft Mac and Cheese.. I think it tastes a little better than the Helper)

to just regular hamburger helper i sometimes add some extra noodles (egg noodles are my fav) a can of stewed tomatoes (chop them up a bit) small can of tomato paste or sauce, pinch of garlic, oregano or italian herbs, and some cheddar cheese. pour them into a casserole dish, top with a little extra cheese (more cheddar or a little mozzarella) and bake till the cheese melts. taste a little like lasagna :)

I like to make dinner a real one pot meal by adding some sort of canned, frozen or fresh veggie to the mixes.
the italian type ones are good with diced zuchini.
Canned peas and carrots, peas and corn are all good to add to any of them.

i like the cheeseburger flavor. instead of using hamburger i use sausage and right before it is done i add a little extra shredded cheese .it gives it a little different flavor when you use sausage.
