Uprooting themselves from friends and family, daring everything against the chance of forging a new life, committing to working hard to succeed against the odds, and often having deep family values and commitments, so much so that they send money home.

Here in Australia we have benefited enormously from Hong Kong Chinese who settled here in great numbers following the return of HK to China. We have welcomed the Lebanese and Asians who have redefined our shopping centres and bought us healthy fast food. We have a backbone of British migrants and almost a third of us are migrants or second generation migrants.

America can rightly claim the same heritage of diversity, and so these days can the UK.

So shouldn't we welcome migrants as people who lterally have "Get up and Go!" ?

mos def. it seems strange to me that people can't live whereever the hell they want. What exactly defines this government institution we have set up that somehow can claim the land for itself. Through all the racial, ethnic, religious and political divisions we are all united by the singularity of being human. The native americans put it best when they said we are all children of mother earth and no one can realistically lay claim to the land. That being said, I do not believe illegal immigrants should be granted the privileges and rights of the country by default because the government institution created those rights and may dole them out as it sees fit. The right to live where u want is something universal to all sentient beings as part of the right to pursue happiness as guaranteed by the constitution. That right is something I dont believe this institution can take away. Let them come live and work here, but dont give them the rights of welfare and such, If they commit crimes, send them away. The root of this immigration problem as I see it is not whether or not we should allow illegals here, but rather in helping improve the economic situations of other nations. If mexico could improve its current situation through some international efforts, there would be much less incentive for people to emigrate. U r an idiot if u think America has no such duty. I think we can all agree that standing up for the oppressed and assisting others in need is inherently a morally valid course of action. Were not doing it in Africa, we didnt do it when Hitler was running all over Europe, and the trend continues. It is a small world and our duty to each other is one that goes beyond nationality.

Those who wish to come here legally, no one has an argument with, generally speaking. There are some nut cases that will always be anti-everything except for their own little herd, but they can be controlled. I met a woman from New Zealand the other day, and we had a very nice conversation. She is an immigrant by virtue of her husband who was in the military. She is as opposed to the illegals as anyone else is. Legals, welcome, illegals, go home.

Legals are, generally speaking, very hard working and an asset to the gaining nation. Illegals are nothing but a drain on the nation.

People around home, Midwest USA, complain about East Indians owning and operating convenience stores. I find that most of those are more efficient. And they are pretty decent folk, at least those that I have spoken to.

Never Before Has Immigration from One Country Been so Massive

For those who argue that current immigration is nothing more than a continuation of our traditional admission of immigrants, the following will set the record straight. At no time in our history has there been an influx of illegal immigration like the country is experiencing today. The estimated 850,000 new illegal immigrant arrivals each year is about as large as the highest level of legal immigrant admissions in our history before the current mass immigration was unleashed by the 1965 Immigration Act, i.e., an average of 880,000 admissions per year from 1901-10. When illegal admissions are added to current legal admissions, today’s immigration level jumps to about 1,750,000 per year.1

Those who suggest that the current influx of Mexicans is simply a repetition of other surges in our history such as from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany or Italy should look at the facts. Mexican entries each year are running at about half a million per year (about 220,000 legal admissions and about 380,000 illegal entrants).2 A comparison of that wave of Mexican entries to the largest historical surges from European countries shows how the present influx is unlike any before it.

Ireland’s record decade for immigrants to the United States was 1841-50, the period of the ‘potato famine’ crisis, when the annual average was about 78,000 persons. The top of the scale for entries from the United Kingdom was from 1881-90 when annual admissions averaged less than 81,000 persons. That decade was also the peak entry for Germans, who came at an annual rate of about 105,000 persons. For Italy the country with the highest immigration in our history prior to the current wave of mass immigration the top decade for immigrants was during the “great wave” 1901-10 period when average Italian entries were less than 205,000 per year.

If you are in Australia, you have a totally different scenario. We have asians as well. If your country had 22,000,000 illegals and counting, you would not be sending this email.

You welcome "migrants" to your country...so does the United States. LEGAL immigrants.

If you also welcome ILLEGAL ALIENS, that's your business...WE DON'T.

The United States accepts more legal immigrants than any other country in the world. We do NOT and WILL NOT accept illegal aliens. Period.
