I'm a bit confused on the subject of hell. I mean, why try to do good things, you're going to someone's hell no matter what.
If I'm Jewish I'm going to Christian hell, if I'm Christian I'm going to Buddist hell or Hindu hell (or the equivilant in their culture). Why bother trying?
Oh, and are you guys honestly okay with knowing half of your friends are going to hell because they don't believe. I think there's something wrong with saying 'Johnny's going to hell... oh well, sucks for him.'
Comments? or Clarification?

HELL IN KJV
One Hebrew word “sheol” is rendered hell. Definition; hades or the world of the dead (as if a subterranian retreat), grave, hell, pit. Three Greek words are rendered hell; geenna, hades, and tartaroo. Definition of geenna; a valley of Jerusalem, used (figuratively) as a name for the place (or state) of everlasting punishment: - hell. Definition of hades; properly unseen, that is, “Hades” or the place (state) of departed souls: - grave, hell. Definition of tartaroo; (the deepest abyss of Hades); to incarcerate in eternal torment: - cast down to hell. Tartaroo is used only one place II Pet.2:4.
Christ teaching the Pharisees in Luke 16:19-31 shows us a separation from God is truly what hell is. The “water” is symbolic for God’s Spirit and love. The word “tormented” means distressed in the Greek, not torture. The “fire” is symbolic for the shame and desire not to be separated from God.
So all who die the first death of the flesh return to God Ecc.12:6-7, but on which side of the gulf do they end up?
Hell is not eternal but is done away with in Rev.20:14-15, called both the second death and lake of fire. This second death is non-existence, for death and hell and those not written in the book of life. This second death or lake of fire is like fat drippings that fall into the fire. Just a poof of smoke into non-existence.
Psa.37:20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.
In my mind what’s worse yet is no memory of you, no tears will be shed for you like you never existed.
Rev.21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
So hell is a separation from God and is not eternal torture or burning. Eventually hell will be done away with or passed away and also some souls. Like fat drippings in the fire, a poof of smoke into non-existence, the second death.

Kelsey,
I will get MANY thumbs down for this just because there are many people that do not understand nor are educated about what there "religion" even is.
Plus, the fact will remain that most people on this site are "God aphobias" so they automatically click on the thumbs down.
Most of the religions you had mentioned have Books (there Bibles) that were written by people in the 1970's. And just because they are of a "jewish" religion doesn't mean they will go to Hell. They do believe in the old testiment not New! A lot of Jewish people have started believing in Jesus being risen from the grave!
There is no Christian hell either.
The VERY first "religions" were the Jews (Jesus spoke in the Jewish temple) That religion changed after Jesus Died and rose again. Next religion was Eastern Orthodox and then the Orthodox couldn't get along, There is always people who didn't agree with the way there "Church was being ran so , that when the Roman Catholic church evolved. since then they split numberous times down the course of time.
Most "religions" are being ran like businesses now days and have turned people OFF and made many people chose paths of "Agnostic or Athiest" The BIGGEST Athiest of ALL times C.S. Lewis turned into a saved Christian and wrote a book called "Mere Christianity" see, he actually did research and found that actually believing in Christ made more sence than not.
In the begining God was there and many perople will have that time when they do come face to face with God and they are the ones who will have to answer. Right now they think he's just a fairy tale (as I read peoples answers in here) and actually they have nothing to stand on, nothing!
I know God exists and I believe Jesus Died for me!
I DO, I feel him in my soul! You'll know too if you've made the decision to ask God into your life! the ones who never felt that will laugh at me just as they did to him many years ago! But, always remember that sayings "he who get's the last laugh!" They will all see!
I am NOT a PERFECT CHRISTIAN, YET!! I never claimed to be "Holier that tho" I am sorry to those who went and got the wrong info. at some really "religious" church that was more interested in your offerings than your heart. Church's forget that the word church is NOT the brick & mortar but, The PEOPLE! Thats what has turned people sour. You can believe any thing you'd like but, just do your research!
I just got done reading other questions and answers and our country is NOT too bright!
We need help! all I know is I trust God to come and take me & all my Brothers & sisters in Christ away from this. I do not really know how to answer your question all I know is Just read about each one and then follow your heart because chances are you WILL feel something in your soul with one of them and I'm VERY confident in the one you WILL feel!

Hell is the Lake of Fire (Rev 20:14-15) which is at "the end" of the Lord's Day known also as the millennium. That 1000 year period "after" this fleshly age. Hell does not exist at this time.
In the millennium those who have mortal souls and don't make the cut Rev 20:5 IE the first resurrection. They will be taught the difference between the HOLY and the PROFANE (Eze 44:23).
They are called the dead, because they are spiritually dead.
After they are taught, then Satan is released again to test GOD's children.
Rev 20:7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
Rev 20:8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom [is] as the sand of the sea.
Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
They don't have immortal souls till they overcome Satan.

Some few intelligent Christians, such as Dante, have also been troubled by this scenerio and that's why they devised a system of nine Infernal circles.
Righteous Jews are supposed to end up in the ninth circle of Hell, together with all the righteous Ancients such as Cleopatra and Buddha. So instead of demons ripping your flesh apart, you'll only have to endure a constant rain, thirst (paradox?), hunger and exhaustion. Forever! Buahahahah! :)

It's something that bothers me a lot. Because many people choose to disregard that hell can be real, so they either decide not to try, or choose to ignore that hell can be real.
You do have a choice, it's called salvation.
Salvation is not about being a good Baptist, or a good Catholic. It's about being in a relationship with God. Salvation is just the start of the journey, because that's just accepting the invitation.

There is not a Christian or a Jewish hell, but hell. Now, you can either research what the Bible teaches about Hell (both Old and New Testament) or other religions.
Then you have to decide for yourself what to believe based on the evidence yielded by your religion of choice.
Me? I prefer the testimony of those that have been there. Bill Weise has written a book, "23 Minutes in Hell" where he details his experiences in Hell.
It is a real place where people that have not accepted Jesus as their Savior go.
For more information about Bill Weise, you can see or hear his testimony on http://www.SpiritLessons.com

People will choose to go to Hell as a result of their own actions. In today's world, nearly 100% of the people have heard about Jesus, what he did for us. If they reject Him, there is Hell to pay. It is nothing more than a result of a simple decision.

Hell is not what they say it is. Please do some research on words sheol (Heb.), or hades (Gr.) as opposed to gehenna. These are two different things and lumping them together has caused many sincere believers to stumble in their faith.
Blessings,

First of all. There is only one hell. What you are getting confused about is different opinions. God gave us brains so we could sort this stuff out and make sense of it.
Secondly, no one can say, "that person is going to hell." It isn't our place. Judgment is solely Our Lord's and no one else's.
Jesus Christ, founded the Catholic Church by planting St. Peter as the first pope. He told us that no one obtains salvation except through Him. All Protestant religions are heresies (lies). They were created by men who wanted to change the rules to make life easier for themselves. The Christian religion (which is only Catholic) is not easy. God asks a lot of us, but we owe it to Him as we were only created to love and serve Him. What a wonderful God He is, He blesses us with so much joy!
That being said, don't be fooled by many who call themselves "Catholic" but do not ahere to the dogmas of the faith. I would recommend the Baltimore Catechism #3 for an explanation of the faith. It was my tool to conversion. Everything made such sense to me. The Catholic Chuch contains the latin mass alone which uses the dead language to preserve the perfection of the words Jesus taught to the apostles on the night of the Last Supper.
Email me with any questions! Take care. I know it's confusing out there.
