Walk. Ride a bike. Take the subway.
Necessity is the mother of invention, yes? Then we'll actually start getting the fuel efficient cars once the public demands them, as opposed to the halfhearted whining we do now.

Better to ask about what the Europeans will do - - The US economy is far more resilient than those in Europe and Asia where the cost is exactly the same for a barrel of oil and the economies don't respond to inflation very well . . .
The cost of oil per barrel is an international price - determined in the world commodities exchanges . . . We could see a worldwide recession and/or depression but, I doubt that the price will rise so rapidly as to precipitate such a future . . .

Tighten our belts until the liberals are squeezed to death, drill our own oil in the meantime, exploit new opportunities for alternative resources, and then, hopefully, pioneer a controlled fusion reaction.
Real simple. Been doing that for over 200 years, when slackers and idiots and snake oil peddlers didn't stand in our way.

Well, by the time that happens our economy will have grown to compensate for the difference in price.
No different than a car being $5000 new 30 years ago and now being around $30000. Our economy & income has grown as prices have increased.
It is great to live in the United States.
God Bless America.

The military will start running on hybrids and fuel efficient vehicles, maybe even progress onto another fuel system altogether - gas, hydrogen, electricity, biodiesel, etc.
It's already being planned for the Future Combat System.

I will survive. I have just about everything I need. I've been without water and power for over a month. I have a small farm that my family can manage. I live in the country.
Sure would suck to be a city person.

Probably complain a lot like we are doing now, and post questions similar to this one outside of the "military" section (not relevant to the Armed Forces)

pay 6 bucks a gallon and complain a lot. The highways will still be clogged every weekend with cars and RV's. I've seen the prices triple in the last 5 years and traffic has only gotten worse.
