Come on people--fess up. Who has a totally nasty microwave right now (food stuck on the turn table, spaghetti sauce splattered on the ceiling, a lingering burnt popcorn smell...)? Don't worry--this is the internet--it's anonymous. :D Honestly, mine's pretty gross. I think my husband blew up a can of Chef Boyardee in it this afternoon, and the butter I melted for my popcorn last night must have boiled over when I wasn't looking. As we speak, the turntable is currently in the dishwasher, and the microwave has been sprayed and is soaking. Who else has a grungy microwave?

An interesting trick for loosening stuck on food--get a dish cloth/rag wet and squeeze out *almost* all of the water, but leave it relatively damp. Microwave it for one minute, then let it sit in the microwave (door closed) for a few minutes. The steam from the hot wash cloth fills the microwave and loosens the stuck on food, so all you have to do is wipe it off, and finish off with a quick spray of whatever cleaner you use, or a Lysol wipe. :)

I've had my microwave over 4 years. I got it used - without any manual or directions.
I cook LOTS of different foods in my microwave. Everything you mentioned - and much, much more. I never have anything overcook or stick or burn.
I have an occasional accident, but I wipe it off right away.
If anything, I have a tendency to under-cook the food - so it doesn't taste like or bounce like a rubber chicken.
It seems like someone or some people in your home are just pushing buttons and walking away.

Mine's not too bad, but I do think there's some splatter on the ceiling from reheating spaghetti sauce last week.
I don't like it to get too nasty because then you have to take a jackhammer to get the stuff off! If there's a spill I "try" to clean it up relatively soon. Doesn't always happen, though.

I can honestly tell you that I clean up food spills or messes right after they happen,so there isn't caked on,greasy,tomato stains in my microwave oven. I have taught everyone in my family how to put a paper towel over their dishes,so the microwave won't turn into a disaster area.
I have seen other people's microwave ovens with caked on,dried on food that has been there for who knows how long,and that would just drive me nuts,because I couldn't stand it if my microwave oven got that dirty and nasty,eww!

I've seen my share. LOL It's a pet peeve of mine though. I can't stand to see spots of anything on the microwave tray table or microwave itself. Makes me nuts. I'm not that picky about anything else.

Mine is above my stove, and being at eye level, I can see when it gets yucky and can clean it pretty easily. Under a cabinet, near my knees? It would probably stay filthy.
Covering tomato products helps prevent splattering, that's for sure!

Mine stays in pristine condition, but it always smells like popcorn.. ugh. and popcorn barely gets popped in it
