Why shouldn't we be? The world is a big diverse place, and think of all the wonderful people that you would never get the chance to know if you judged them specifically because they are from a different place and believe something different than you do. Life is all about learning to live in harmony with our surroundings and other people, and "other people" isn't exclusive to people who share our own culture and beliefs. Besides, it never hurts to learn something new.

Maybe you should define what you mean by tolerance. I live in an area where tolerance has been shown to illegal immigrants over a period of years, and they've turned my hometown into a third world country. If I had to do it over again, knowing what I do now about the culture of these people, I'd yell loud and long to stop the influx. They've turned a quiet little working class town into a drug/gang infested war zone. So... no, I do not think we should be "tolerant" of other cultures and/or religions. Might seem mean to others, but I would fight to preserve my town and my children's heritage if I had to do it over again.

i could say Hinduism or Buddhism. i'm able to talk greater for Hinduism because of the fact that i'm Hindu. Hindus have no penalty for apostasy, and those wishing to return to Hinduism are welcomed. Hindus appreciate all faiths, that's evidenced by capability of the actuality that India has maximum of religions and little or no inner conflict. Hindus have self assurance strongly interior the assumption of nonviolence and in karma, the two considered one of which might make a contribution strongly to human beings performing greater acceptable. a superb variety of the flaws i discussed for Hinduism could additionally notice to Buddhism. in actuality, all religions are meant to be tolerant and non violent, yet each now and then there's a organic force to unfold the religion and for some, which capability putting down different faiths in want of their very very own (a minimum of that's what i could wager). this would not notice to all parts of faiths that are regularly used for lively proselytizing, basically some. No faith preaches violence, that is going against difficulty-loose ethical fiber, yet a superb variety of lack of awareness, misinterpretation, and communique outcomes interior the non secular conflicts all of us understand at present.

I can't understand why someone would not be tolerant of other cultures or religious practices unless they are intolerant of yours. I hope for everyone to treat me kindly even if a am a little different than they.

We should be tolerant of other cultures but I can't be tolerant of other religions. I feel the need to correct their error and lead them to the true way to eternal life and Heaven. I want to spread the good news about how God came down to Earth as Man (Jesus Christ) to take our punishment upon Himself so we can live forever with Him as was meant to be from the beginning. I believe I should gently lead them to correction but I will not throw pearls to swine.

well do you want others to be tolerant of your culture and religion that they are not accustomed to...or just judge you, discriminate against you, and hate you based on superfluous knowledge about you? the answer to your question is the answer to this question.

Yes, with one disclaimer. Toleration is one thing, agreeing is quite another. Do we have to say that they are correct? Absolutely not. Do we have to be a good neighbor? Absolutely yes. There's never any reason to be a jerk just because someone believes differently.

Some. Depends on the culture.
If they regularly hurt people, deprive them of their rights, etc...then I don't think we have any obligation to tolerate such actions.
