Strange how some people skip all that stuff and others get one or two of them. Some none. I know a guy who did not get chicken pox until he was in college.

Up to half of the people who have mumps have few or no symptoms. Mumps is highly contagious, so you may have acually had the virus without symptoms.

Want to know for sure? Your physician can draw blood and perform a mumps titer, which detects antibodies to the virus.

I worked in nursing education for almost 20 years, and my students had to bring proof of immunization or immunity to mumps, among other diseases. A surprising number of them claimed not to have had mumps but had positive titers showing exposure to the virus.

If you were born after 1965 or so, you may have received your MMR vaccinations (measles mumps rubella) and therefore are protected against mumps.

I got the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine, but got mumps anyway when I was 16.

I got to miss out on scarlet fever and strep throat, though. Yay!

I never got the mumps either and I was in close contact with my sister when she had them. A doctor told my mom that I may have had such a mild case that it went unnoticed by her.

I never had mumps either, despite my three brothers ALL having it. Either I was born naturally immune or just being exposed to them was enough to give my immune system a boost.
