yes, go to the bar the night before opening day, get trashed. wake up hung over at 4:10am make coffee, get dressed, start truck get rifle and knife and a minimum of 100 rounds of ammo and put in truck. head out to get your buddies. stop at gas station get copenhagen and donuts and plenty of beer. fill truck up with gas. head for the woods. get there at least 2 hours before the sun comes up. eat donuts drink the beer. load the rifle and stash the remaining 96 rounds of ammo in every pocket you have. walk off into the woods and take a nap. when you wake up it will be daylight and there will be deer all around you. pick the one you like best and shoot at it hoping to hit (remember you have plenty of ammo if you miss) it. in the event of an emergency that you do actualy hit the deer, dont panic. simply stand up and hoot and hollar for your buddies to get over there. then go to the truck and get the left over beer and the knife. go back to the deer and buddies. distribute the beer and tell the storry of how you got the deer at least 5 times. gut the deer and take it home to hang in the garage and piss off the old lady. thats the deer hunting strategy that works best.

There are several different strategies, depending on the type of deer, where you hunt, and what type of hunting you like.

Most common are 'still hunting' used either from a tree stand or ground stand, used where you know deer pass through the area;
and 'stalking' where you spot a particular animal and try to sneak up within reasonable range to get a shot; and or combning the two if you are using a ground stand where you can move out after the deer.

In some areas a 'drive' and/or dogs can be used by others in your group to 'herd' the deer to where you can get a shot.

The type of hunting depends also on what you hunt with, and your physical condition.

The best strategy is deciding which strategy to use. I know that doesn't seem to make sense, but other hunters will know what I mean. :)

Setting up downwind with scent one day may not work the next day.
Still hunting will be successful on one occasion, but not the next ten times you try.
Stalking will not work for you at all, until the one day you're walking out to your stand, stop to take a leak before you get there, and have an eight pointer walk out and watch you.

SO, if you can figure out which strategy will work for which day, you're a lucky man.

It all comes down to just being in the right place or spot at the right time.* That is why it is important to scout the area before hunting season to observe deer trails & the Deer you will be hunting so as to pick different spots to become successful in harvesting one.*

Absolutely!
You must learn to think like the deer, walk like the deer, be the deer!
Just don't get shot!

It all depends on what you are hunting with and where you are hunting. But, yes, no matter what, you will need some sort of strategy to be consistently successful.

In Texas...

1) Buy some corn - pour it the ground
2) Hide in a little wooden box with gun near the corn
3) When deer show up eat the corn, shoot one

Yes most definitely. That's why hunting is so much fun. It's you against the animal. And so you know, I only hunt what I am going to eat.

Find out where the deer go, get there before they do, and wait. It's boring, and that's why I don't do it.
