I was wondering what all do you have to do to start your own day-care? Not really so much a day-care but unlicensed. I am only 18 but I love working with children and I think it would be something I would be great at. I called around day care around here but no where is hiring here. So I was wondering how to go about doing it? Put up flyers about it...see where it goes from there? Someone please help!!!!

There are many ways, methods and regulations. Often you can open a homebased day care after you recieve a set of training from your local Bureau for Children and Families with DHHR. This is the easiest. A formal business requires licensing thru Chidrens, Sanitary board, local fire marshall, and often education depending on the age range. You will need a certification, business license and facility license. Go to your local state DHHR page and search. Often info and phone numbers are posted. You could also interview local providers regarding lessons learned. You will need to do a formal business plan and application.

You'd better check with state agencies where you live. In some states you can care for 1 or 2 or 3 or whatever in your home without a license. In others you have to have a license regardless of the number of children or where they are cred for. Just in case you had better check on the cost of insurance for liability purposes.

I would advise you to become licensed;.... you will have so many more options as a day care provider! Speak with DHS about the necessary steps to become licensed.....
