It's past from hand to eye contact, and it's highly contagious!

That's all that I know.

If someone else with pink eye touches their eye and then touches you (or something you touch) and you touch your eye - you will probably get it. It is highly contagious which is why it spreads so quickly through schools. Basically any shared surface becomes a transfer point for the pink eye germs.

True pinkeye is caused by a bacteria. Haemophilus aegypticus. It's easily passed by contact with infected eye secretions. Say someone with it rubs their eye, (it is really itchy) then touches something, like a telephone. Then, you touch the same phone, then rub your eye. You will probably get pinkeye.

There are other bacteria that mimic pinkeye, that are harder to transmit, and eye allergies can look like pinkeye, so to be on the safe side, wash your hands often, clean objects you share with other people, and try not to touch your eyes unless you have just washed your hands thoroughly.

it's common if you share eye makeup, or if you don't wash off your eyeliner or mascara every night
