Basic human rights extend far past the ones guaranteed to us by the US constitution. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are contained in American documents, and there is a big wide world out there that isn't compromised of only Americans. That being said, I could not respect any religion that compromised any of my human rights, including the American ones, but not exclusive to them, such as the right to food, medical care, the right not to be murdered or raped or mutilated...

OF course, I can respect them...I just wouldn't join them..But what religions are you referring to here? I do think my belief in God,,,,gives me the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness...I don't see in the bible,,,where these rights are taken away when you become a Christian. You must be thinking of some of the Middle Eastern religions.

Are you saying you feel like religion limits what you can do?
I don't know what religion you're talking about, but my religion doesn't make me feel that way. Instead, I think it does the opposite.
Most people say religion binds you, and makes it so you can't enjoy life, but I think it frees you.
Religion says don't do a certain thing, but the only reason why is so we do not get addicted to that certain thing. If we're addicted, are we really free?

Religion is a relationship.
That's like saying "Can you respect Marriage when you have to give up ..yadayadayadayadayadayada".
If that's the case, don't get married.
Don't like religion, don't get religion.
Remember, it's a dry heat.

No, I can't. Not me personally.
I see no reason to respect ANY religion that wishes to control not only the lives of those who chose to follow it, but those that don't.
