Next time, listen to your mom!

Hmm keloids are tough. Best to get advice from a doctor/plastic surgeon.

You may not be able to.

But you can try hydrogen peroxide.

You can soak (I mean REALLY soak--it should be dripping) a cotton ball in hydrogen peroxide, and let it sit on the scar for as long as 10 minutes. Do that at least once, if not twice, a day for a week or two, and you might see some improvement. (It worked on a small keloid cyst I developed on a piercing.)

There's also a commercial anti-scar preparation (mostly hydrogen peroxide) that you can buy at drugstores. It's a gel strip that you apply in a similar way. And it's much more expensive. But it comes with explicit directions.

Soaking with hot salt water is also recommended, but only for recent piercings.

Lots of piercing parlors have websites, and some of those have "troubleshooting" suggestions that will tell you the same things I just did.

A keloid is like a tiny bump that forms on or around the piercing. Somtimes they go away on their own, other times they never go away. If it's not a keloid, just a discoloration or other scar, vitamin E ointments and creams may help. Also, some people have had success using cocoa butter on scars, but nothing is really truly proven to make scars go away.

If you are prone to keloid scarring it may be difficult to get rid of it. I've had major surgery that resulted in a large keloid scar from my sternum *just between my rib cage to two inches below my navel. I had cosmetic surgery done to lessen the scar and it did help but didn't take it away completely. If you do not wish to consider cosmetic surgery *and it's painful..trust me* there are some products on the market that can flatten the scar a bit with continual use. Good luck.
