I got a ps3 last month for my husband for christmas, and let him open it early two days ago, but it gets really hot. It is really warm to the touch. Cool air comes out of the front vents, but the sides are hot air. My games, when ejected come out with smears of sweat on them where the system got so hot. Is this normal or is my system getting ready to blow up?

It's normal for the PS3 to operate pretty warm, but its not normal for smears of sweat to be on the games when they are ejected. The PS3 isn't getting enough ventilation. Make sure that the PS3 isn't pushed all the way back against a wall or in a very confined space because the PS3 is a system that needs plenty of air.

Well first of all it going to get hot, but i don't think it suppose to get hot so let start with this.....did you read your manual I bet your husband didn't read it. Anyways what you need to do is put the console in an area where the hot air leave the console about a couple inches away from the walls and not in a entertainment center unless it on the top where the hot air can be released. There is a software installed in the console to turn off the system before everything fries so no worry about it blowing up. But put it in an open area I have my on a stand on the top where it alone and nothing keep the hot air contain. Keep it off the floor and about let go 3 feet off the floor dust collect and it get hot easily down on the floor so if the 2 things don't work I suggest you return it you can return it now but if you have it where you have it now it going to keep doing this I have kept my ps3 on for 2 days straight (not on purpose) and came home it was warm but not hot and it was running fine and no harm was done and haven't had any problem with my ps3 *knock on wood*

The Playstation 3 is just fine, dont worry about it, when the internal system gets too hot, the lights flash red then that is a sign that it is overheating.

as long as the ps3 is not in a crowded area such as the back of a cabinet and nothing is blocking the fans, then its all good.
If you leave it on for a long time, you might want to consider putting a fan next to it to help circulate the hot air
