My son started out with one spot on his face that kept getting bigger and bigger and then he got another spot a month later.. now he has two or three more spots.. but they're only on his face. We got referred to a dermatologist and she swabbed it but it was mostly just blood that she got out, no pus or anything, but they checked for an infection and said there was none and that his skin would just grow over it. Well, its NOT going away and his skin is NOT growing over it, its getting WORSE! So we went back to the pediatrician and he gave us more bactracin cream but that was it. He said it should be gone by December or else we're going to have to talk surgery to remove all of them and my son will have scars all over his face. I do NOT want him to have surgery... what should I do??? Also, he took an antibiotic for about 3 months and it did absolutely nothing. Thank you for all of your help and please pray for my son, I think it hurts his little face!

oh that is so sad, I am sorry to hear of your son's misfortune. I would tend to want to take him to a naturopath, or holistic dr of medicine, see if they can determine the cause of your son's affliction. Doctors don't have all the answers.

Impetigo is a bacterial infection and requires an antibiotic. I would suggest requesting another testing, either with the same doctor or seeking a second opinion. Bacitracin is not an antibiotic it's used for minor skin irritations.

I would highly suggest trying a gentle natural remedy. Honey is really nourishing for skin and you might try mixing some honey essential oil blend up for him. Or olive oil which is another great natural, easy to find, skin conditioner.

In the base I would put lavender and tea tree essential oils. MAKE SURE YOU GET A REALLY HIGH QUALITY ESSENTIAL OIL. Becuase you'll be putting it right on his skin.

Lavender is really good for skin conditions, softens skin and helps heal even bad chemical burns. It is also anti-microbial and soothing. Tea tree oil will help keep it from getting any infections.

What you are describing sounds almost like a really bad case of eczema almost - like his skin is reacting to the medications he is on so not healing properly.

During this time I would try cutting back or eliminating any steroidal type creams as they can weaken his immune system and you want his body to fight to heal itself. Also - cut out all sugar. ALL. Like skip the fruit juice and go straight for water (with lemon if possible to help balance his body's PH levels). He can get the fruit and vegetables he needs by EATING fruits and veges which will taste really good to him since he won't be getting any sugar. :-D

Obviously what the doctor's are trying isn't helping and I think it's pretty crazy to jump all the way to surgery for such a young child. If you can do some simple, natural skin care at home that might help his skin hopefully you can avoid surgery!!

P.S. Email me if you want more information about skin care stuff. When my son's skin broke out we switched to a natural product line I get in the mail and it cleared his skin up within the first month! We got rid of our baby wash, chemical ladden shampoo, and harsh detergants for laundry and other household cleaners. Just a thought - email me if you want more info. ang.england@yahoo
