because fighting is fun... as long as you arent being maimed/killed... unless you're into that sort of thing.

People fight for a variety of reasons other than money. In fact there are more poor fighters than rich ones and when you figure in the years of experience and training and the time involved most would have masters or PHDs if they had channeled that time, effort and energy into college. As someone already said some do it for competition. Others do it to test or prove their skills manna-on-manna to themselves or sometimes to others. You will find still others that like the physical contact, and to some extent the pain and punishment that goes with it. Some like it so much that its freaky like the guy the other night on Ultimate Fighter that said it made him giddy.
Along with this also comes certain notoriety, and respect and it can be intoxicating in some ways to have several thousand people cheering for you while entering or leaving the ring or while fighting. For me I miss that aspect the most and it was always fun to run into people later that night or the next day that had watched you fight and say something like, "man-you look just like this guy I watched fight".

For the love of the competition, not all places are into the whole MMA or Street Fighting game as many others are. Some will fight strictly to test themselves in the art of fighting. It more for the pride than for the purse.

The simple answer is this:
To you it may be "nothing" to them it is something.
You must remember that we all are individuals and differant from one another. What you see as trash or junk another sees as a treasure or art.

Most guys who get into these things have some deep-rooted anger and/or self-esteem issue. They think they can somehow become a bigger man by beating somebody up. Also, note that alcohol is usually involved.
