Amazing grace makes me want to puke, because my dad gets all choked up when he sings it.
I hate all of them, though.

Anything that repeats one word or phrase over and over again until that word/phrase looses its meaning. The best example I can give of this is any song that only consists of the word "alleluia" over and over again. I know what the word means (it means "praise God") but after a while of having it repeated to me over and over again with no other input, I just can't think clearly anymore and began to question if anything has any meaning at all. Give me meaningful lyrics with an uplifting tune--that's a hymn! One word set to four notes does not a good hymn make.

Just about anything by Marty Haugen or David Haas.
"Sing Out, Earth and Skies"
"Come to the Table"
and the ubiquitous "Gather Us In"
Yeuuch.
Honorable mention: "Here I Am, Lord" (Dan Schutte). Yep, I'm here, God, give me a pat on the back for showing up.
What passes for liturgical music sometimes is ... well, banal is the best word I can use.
And can we have a moratorium on "Eagle's Wings" until the composer decides which key and tempo he likes best, and revises the thing so ordinary folks can actually sing it?

I dislike "His Eye is on the Sparrow". Lots of people like to hear kids sing it. I guess they think its cute.
Spike made me laugh - I refer to that hymn as "the worm song" when speaking with my sister. She wouldn't believe me when I told her those were the actual lyrics, kept saying "No way! Get outta here!"
Modern hymnals often change the words to "for sinners such as I', but if King David could write "I am a worm and no man".......

A so-called worship song that nearly makes me physically ill whenever I hear it, is "True Love" by David Ruis. Here is a link to the lyrics:

I hate it because its sexual connotations have no place in Christian worship. Sorry to disappoint all you Christian romantics, but Song of Solomon is *not* about our relationship with Jesus except in the most abstract terms. This sort of song is completely out of line.

It's not a hymn, but I HATE "I Can Only Imagine." Sorry, I know it means well, but it is so sappy and banal.

I don't neccessarily hate it but there's this one song that really gets on my nerves, cause we just keep repeating the same thing over and over and OVER again! I love God and am a Christian, but this one song just really starts to bother me because it loses its meaning when you have to repeat it over and over again. the song I am a friend of God

All of them, but most of all the lyrics to Amazing Grace. I am not nor have I ever been a wretch, nor do I intend to become a wretch (saved Christian).
