How was the 14th Dalai Lama chosen?
Some monks in Lhasa (the capital of Tibet) had a dream that the 13th Dalai Lama had been reincarnated into the body of a little peasant boy in small village. Two monks went to the small village in the Amdo region of Northeastern Tibet to a peasant family to to observe their two year old son. The little boy recognized a certain hidden item that had belonged to the thirteenth Dalai Lama. He picked it out from among many other items that did not belong to him. Two years later the kid was accepted as the fourteenth reincarnation of the Dalai Lama. The kid was enthroned in 1940 at the age of five. To relearn the knowledge accumulated in his previous lives, he was taught by the most learned masters in Tibet.

The way the Dali Lama is chosen is very interesting. The previous Dali lama, before he dies, writes on a piece of paper information which would lead to the discovery of his own reincarnation. The day and time he dies is when the new Dali Lama is born. This special boy is found and brought to the temple for training. It is very honorable to be a monk in Tibet. So to be chosen to be the Dali Lama is something very great

I think they have a 30 man Battle Royale and the last man left in the ring at the end is the new Dali Llama.

they find a child who has shown characteristics of the previous dali llama. they unroll a blanket with several everyday items and tell the child to pick which one belonged to the last dali llama

someone chooses an item of the former dalai llama and if its correct than that kid is the "reincarnation" of the dead one
