I was wondering about the G2 contender and Encore single shot pistols. If I were to get the Encore with a 15" .308 barrel how much recoil would it have? Also, are the Contender and Encore barrels interchangeable so I could put a pistol caliber on it as well? Another question, if I were to want the rifle version, could I buy a factory stock for it and replaci it with the pistol grip? And how much does each cost?

I have a 15" Encore 308 stainless, it's like being clonked in the hands with a 2x4 covered in rubber. Because of the weight of the gun it has less immediacy than a 44 magnum derringer, which I thought was like having a grenade go off in your hand, but it pushes you back a lot more. Considerably more recoil than a 44 Magnum Redhawk, but because of the grip design it's still more pleasant to shoot. I actually find it more comfortable to shoot off-hand and standing. I can easily shoot 50 rounds without discomfort, by that time the weight is making my arm tired.

DO NOT try to oppose the recoil, it will win and whatever you put in its place will lose. DO NOT rest the bottom of the grip on the palm of your hand and your elbow on something solid, turns out the grip pushes down as it recoils and that hard bottom of the grip feels like being hit in the palm with a framing hammer.

Converting a rifle to a pistol is viewed very poorly by the authorities, like making a sawn off shotgun. Just to be fair they are difficult about going the other way too. The TC stocks are very expensive, I paid well over $100 when I made the mistake of trying the wood grip with the 308. Another thing worth not doing. Just believe me. That rubber grip is saving you a lot of grief.

The Encore barrels are much heavier in the locking area, they won't fit in a Contender frame.

The Contender has a better trigger but the Encore has a safer trigger. I can shoot my 15" 223 Encore barrel into well under an inch at 100 yards so it can't be all that bad. There are folks who will 'improve' the trigger, but after checking what they did I decided to stick with the stock, slightly heavy but certainly safe, trigger.

Go with the encore. I have both and my reasoning is all the cartridges that the contender is available in the encore is too.

The contender is very limited in choices when you are considering rifle cartridges. On the positive side of the contender is it's weight and balance. The encore just feels big and heavy all the time.

You can not purchase a rifle and make it a handgun. The frame has to be created as a handgun and sold as one. Now you CAN purchase a handgun and turn it into a rifle. If you buy one T/C will explain this further in the owners manual. It is also printed on the butt plate of their rifle stock. Something to the affect of "Not for use with barrels under 16 inches".

As for the recoil... It will recoil, but due to the weight and balance its not painful or uncontrollable. Just something you will get use to is all.

A .308 encore is a handfull, but it is mnagable. Also, you can, and should add a muzzle brake, which really tames the recoil down a lot. Encore and contender barrels are not interchangeable, sorry, but you can get the same barrels for the encore, that you can get for the contender anyway. you get into some problems with putting a rifle stock on a pistol, and vice versa. The ATF gets really finicky with it. I'd check further with them before trying it, just to protect yourself.

first the 308 has substanial recoil in the encore, i have one using reduced recoil loadings such as the ones by remington it is compoarable to a 44 mag,

next G2 contender barrels/ actions ARE NOT interchangable with encore barrels/actions

encore have a variety of calibers pistol and rifle available
including rimfire midwayusa.com has a great selection

you also need to purchase as a pistol and change to a rifle as changing a rifle to a pistol is not legal

as far as prices check cabelas.com and midwayusa.com stocks differ in price by style, ie. composite, wood, thumbhole etc.
