I have a pound-puppy (he's a grown dog) and he had fleas. I used the vet sold Frontline or Advantage stuff..used it as directed...and the dog still nibbles at himself like he has fleas...Got any suggestions???

Flea bites are like mosquito bites, they'll itch for a while. Although, you might want to check the dog over and remove & kill any you find. Flea treatments don't always kill 100% of them. Also, some dogs have allergies to fleas and all it takes is one to drive them bonkers for a long time after the fact. I also recommend treating your house and yard...they don't actually live on the dog.

Did you get the Frontline completely on the skin of the dog? And you didn't bath him before or after applying? If so, the Frontline will work. However if you didn't spray your house, there will still be fleas around.

There are also other causes of nibbling besides fleas. If you still have a problem, go BACK to the vet, or how can they help you? No one on here can tell you what's wrong with your dog or whether or not he has fleas!

If a dog is sensitive to flea bits or has a flea allergy, it can still have symptoms. Advantage and Frontline ned the flea to bite the dog to die. If the flea bites the dog, it can have the reaction. If the dog came with fleas, they can still be in the house. It may take a few weeks to clear up the problem, but I would call the vet and ask advice.

yes,go back to the vet and ask the tech for the flea speech....there is so much more to it than just treating the dog...look at one of the fleas and notice the legs.....

Has he been checked for food allergies, or even potentially allergic to flea bites!

Just because the fleas are gone, doesn't mean the symptoms are.
