Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant.
First stage: it makes you feel happy, you feel giddy, relaxed and laugh at everything.
The judgment is impaired and people make stupid decisions they later regret. Some engage in risky behavior, either sexual or behavioral. Others decide to drive/go for a swim/walk on the edge of a cliff or anything else they would never do under normal circumstances.
Second stage:If you keep on drinking you feel tired and depressed. Some people cry at this stage and feel down.Others throw up,most want to sleep.
This is the depressed stage. It doesn't really relieve anxiety, it just adds another problem to a person who cannot cope with the present and already has problems.
Third stage: Permanent damage to vital organs occurs, brain, liver, pancreas etc. Coma occurs and, if the person is not transfered for emergency care, death follows.
Bottom line: The risk far outweights the "benefit".Please, don't drink as a means of relaxation, will make a small problem far worse

Alcohol is a depressant - as a chemical - thus it tends to calm one down - provided they don't drink too much - and while the calming effect helps relieve anxiety it doesn't make problems go away...just might be easier to deal with for the time being.

Alcohol can do that in the beginning because basically it deadens a lot of the brain cells that relate to conciousness.
You get unconcious enough and you dont have any problems except if you happen to have been driving while you were drinking. Then you'll have more anxiety than you can handle. If you're not dead that is. Meditation is a lot better-trust me.

Alcohol is a chemical depressant like barbituates or valium. They calm your central nervous system down when you are in a state of aggitation. Alcohol can depress the central nervous system so much that it can stop breathing and heart functions.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.
Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

It doesn't-it only postpones it. Using drugs or drinking is like hitting the snooze button on your alarm clock-you eventually have to wake up.

Its works to the degree that if you want to be say amorous, it can depress bad issues for a while cause your bonked out. I wouldn't be addressing my problems this way as a rule, but it does block out, kid problems, etc.
