Col 1:12-15

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

Father K, the words that are important here are "of every creature"

You can insult me but you don't address the issue.

Edge, it doesn't say, "over all creation", it says, "of all creatures."

This is the KJV I'm referring to.

Wow, people! The NIV says, "over all creation" and the KJV say "of all creatures"

One of them has to be wrong.

2007-10-29 13:10:55 · update #3

Edge, what does, "of every creature," mean? Is that a mistranslation in the KJV? Because if it is a good translation, there is no arguing that Jesus is put into the bucket of creatures. How else could he be "of every creature?"

# Col. 1:15: Is used by the Jehovah's Witnesses to say that Jesus is the first created thing. This verse says, "He [Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation."

1. The Jehovah's Witnesses maintain that "firstborn" means first created. This cannot be the case because...
A. There is a Greek word for "first created" and it is not used here.
B. "First born" is proto, "first," with tikto "to bring forth, bear, produce."
C. There is no word used in the New Testament for "first created." However, if there were, the construction would be proto, "first," with ktizo "to create." And this is not the construction used in Col. 1:1
2. Firstborn can certainly mean the first one born in a family. However, it can also mean preeminence. For example:
A. In Jeremiah 31:9, the firstborn title is attributed to one of the tribes of northern Israel. "They will come with weeping; they will pray as I bring them back. I will lead them beside streams of water on a level path where they will not stumble, because I am Israel's father, and Ephraim is my firstborn son."
3. Understanding biblical culture is important when interpreting Scripture. Firstborn was a title, not only of the first born male, but also of preeminence which is precisely what is occurring when it is said that Jesus is the firstborn.

Sorry been arguing with JW's and used their version of the Bible. However it still works even with the King James Version. The answer is the same. Firstborn means preminence not first created.

Jesus is the Son of God and the Son never becomes the Father. This idea that Jesus is God is a grave mistake of many Christians. Jesus said "My father is greater than I." Says it all. Jesus is simultaneously one with, yet different from God. His word is the word of God, because the holy spirit(God within Jesuses heart) is speaking through Jesus. But that does not make Jesus God. His teachings come directly form God. For the original new testament before king Constantine changed it google gospelofthenazirenes.com Much has been changed. Following the original teachings of Jesus will set one free. I am so grateful I found him.

God the Word, the Son, was not created by God the Father but is eternal with Him and God the Holy Spirit.

God took on Himself a human nature and that full but unfallen and sinless nature and condition of a creature : that person is Jesus, true God and true Man.

Jesus is the only begotten Son of God.
The apostle John repeatedly describes the Lord Jesus Christ as the only-begotten Son of God. (Joh 1:14; 3:16, 18; 1Jo 4:9) This is not in reference to his human birth or to him as just the man Jesus. As the Lo´gos, or Word, “this one was in the beginning with God,” even “before the world was.” (Joh 1:1, 2; 17:5, 24) At that time while in his prehuman state of existence, he is described as the “only-begotten Son” whom his Father sent “into the world.”—1Jo 4:9.
He is described as having “a glory such as belongs to an only-begotten son from a father,” the one residing “in the bosom position with the Father.” (Joh 1:14, 18) It is hard to think of a closer, more confidential, or more loving and tender relationship between a father and his son than this.—See BOSOM POSITION.
The angels of heaven are sons of God even as Adam was a “son of God.” (Ge 6:2; Job 1:6; 38:7; Lu 3:38) But the Lo´gos, later called Jesus, is “the only-begotten Son of God.” (Joh 3:18) He is the only one of his kind, the only one whom God himself created directly without the agency or cooperation of any creature. He is the only one whom God his Father used in bringing into existence all other creatures. He is the firstborn and chief one among all other angels (Col 1:15, 16; Heb 1:5, 6), which angels the Scriptures call “godlike ones” or “gods.” (Ps 8:4, 5) Therefore, according to some of the oldest and best manuscripts, the Lord Jesus Christ is properly described as “the only-begotten god [Gr., mo·no·ge·nes´ the·os´].”—Joh 1:18

Jesus Christ is God and no man created God. God's plan of salvation included different manifestations of himself to mankind as that as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In the light of the gospel, that you cited, Jesus Christ is savior and Lord of all. The creature he is talking about are spiritual new born beings that is man being born again. We are born again in Jesus Christ..

I don't see how these verses support Jesus being created.
NIV version says
Colossians 1:12-15
12giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you[a] to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14in whom we have redemption,[b] the forgiveness of sins.
The Supremacy of Christ
15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

He is ruler over creation but not created and he is the first part of God to literally be born.

He was god in a sense. Jesus was a man. A great man! He was part of god (saying he was the son of god is very confusing). But So are you and I. Jesus was just more in tune. Karmically speaking, he was a very evolved soul. What is god anyway but a power that creates. Each of us is god incarnate. Jesus just set a good example to each of us by living spiritual truths.

The biblical term "firstborn" in both Hebrew and Greek does not necessarily mean "the first one born". It is clear from the OT and throughout the NT that "firstborn" simply means the "preeminent one".

Perhaps a little more Hebrew, Greek and Scriptural Studies 101 might be a better plan for you - rather than looking foolish on Y!A

Just a suggestion.

Jesus Christ is God's Son, His Annointed One, or His Annointing. Jesus died and sits at the right hand of the Father, he is with God, and so God sent his Spirit for us as a gift to be our helper, also known as the Holy Spirit, The Helper, The Comforter.
