My partner's parents have received an abusive letter in the post, it is typed, I am blamed by them for this as the father and I do not get on for different reasons, but I am 100% innocent and have nothing to do with it, how can I prove my innocence? How can they trace a postal letter to find out who it actually came from?

I don't know if this question applies to US mail, UK mail, or another country. In the US, it is NEVER possible to tract the SOURCE of mail. At best, you can trace the post office that first accepted the mail. IF a postage meter was used, the owner of the meter can be identified, but any halfway intelligent person not wanting to be found won't use a meter.
