I own a male maltese. He is now 1 years old, he pretty much has the housebreaking downpacked but every one in a while he will urinate on the side of my comforter or somewhere stupid. What can i do to totally prevent this from happening, it is really starting to agrivate me. Anyone have legitimate answers for me??

If you believe he is housebroken it could possibly be a urinary tract infection or behavioral issue.

If he is NOT neutered, well there is your answer.

Also check if there is any green discharge from his penis, it could be a sign of the start of an infection

You need to clean up his "accidents" with non-ammonia based cleaners. Anything with ammonia in it will trigger the dog to go there again. Ammonia is what is in their urine and they can smell it in the cleaners. Pet stores or vets can advise which ones to get. Maltese are buggers when it comes to housebreaking properly, they are just plain lazy to go to the door. I was minding one once and when he woke up from his sleep in the bean bag, he just stood there and "went" in the bag without the slightest effort to move or go to the door AND he was an adult!

He is not housebroken. Simple. Crate him when you can't watch him. Go back to housebreaking basics--no free roaming, watch him 100% when he's out, frequent trips outside with praise when he goes, and crate when not supervised.

My best friend has a five year old male Maltese. He still does submissive urinating, so when I go to her house, I can't pet him for about five minutes until he gets over his excitement at me being there and won't pee when I touch him. So it could be a submissive thing... although I doubt it if he's going on your bed.

Is he neutered? It may have nothing to do with whether he's housebroken.....he may be ''marking his territory''.
