CALL THE VET NOW!!!! Your dog NEEDS a dose of Vitamin K!

Here is the truth on how rat poison works:
"Anticoagulant rodenticides do not produce signs of poisoning for several days after the toxic dose has been consumed.

Anticoagulant rodenticides cause internal bleeding.
A poisoning victim will show weakness and pallor but bleeding will likely not be obvious externally."

Please, for the sake of your dog, get it to a vet!!!

The advice to get him to the vet now is right on. While some dogs may start vomiting after ingesting rat poison, others will show no symptoms until very late in the game, and by then it may be to late.

Rat poison work by destroyed the red blood cells. These cells are used for clotting. Once they're gone the lightest bump that would normally not cause any harm, can cause massive uncontrolled bleeding. The animal bleeds to death because its body has no clotting agents left.

This is what will happen to your dog if he ingested it, a slow painful, agonizng death. Since you can't see what's going on inside your dogs blood vessels, you need to get him into a vet now.

If they find he didn't ingest it, you'll feel relieved. If they do find that he did eat it, you'll be happy you got him there and started treatment when you did. Its a win-win for everyone.

Please seek medical treatment for your puppy asap.

***ETA: I guess I should have specified a little more, sorry about that. Rat poisons cause INTERNAL bleeding, so you will not notice outward signs until its to late.

Rat poison is a slow but sure death if not treated. It stops the blood from clotting and therefore causes internal bleeding. Sometimes it takes a few days for symptoms to show up, and by then it may be too late. Fortunately there is an antidote (Vitamin K1) that can be given. It involves an initial injection, then taking pills for a few weeks. If it happened 6 hours ago it is too late to make him throw it up, so I won't tell you to rush him to the expensive emergency clinic, but definately be at your vet's door as soon as he opens!
