Depends on the dog, but I trust my Pit Bull with my other dogs and kids. And I also trust about 13 other Pit Bulls I know and I know how they were raised. 4 out of the 13 Pit Bulls are service dogs and also visit hospitals. ALL OF THEM ARE the most loving dogs in the world. My Pit Bull actually protects my other dogs, and Guinea Pig. But like people some dogs you can trust and some you can not. For dogs it all depends on their raising and breed has nothing to do with it.

Any dog, regardless of breed, can attack another pet.

That being said, I'm a pit bull owner, and do not leave my dogs unattended with my cat, nor do I leave the dogs together unsupervised.

For the record, my pit bull got attacked and seriously injured by a NON pit bull dog.

Breed as nothing to do with it. NO DOG REGARDLESS OF BREED SHOULD BE LEFT ALONE WITH A CHILD. A six pound pom killed a baby. My nieces hand raised chocolet lab attacked and put her son in the hosptil. She was in the same room It happened so fast she had no time to react. I own a pit, he is a service dog out in public all the time. He is very well trained. he can walk without a leash and never leaves my side when we are out and I have to let go of him. i never leave him alone with my grandniece, he is big and could play her to death. Last winter in Slt Lake a GR playing with the homes small child accdently killed the child. APBT were once referred to as nanny dogs becasue of how well they interacted with childern. APBT and thier relative breeds are the only breeds to be bred for non human aggersion. When a dog would show aggersin towards a human it was put down. All you have to do is look up real info on the breed to find oput what a great breed they are. ANd by the way most aminal groups and City AC well tell you that most dogs that bite people think are pits, most of them have no idea what a real pit looks like. There is about 20 breeds commanly mis ided as pit bull. Can you find the pit:

I don't trust my 13 year old toothless lab mix alone in the house with my daughter, but I'm comfortable being in the next room when they're together (like, they're in the living room and I'm in the kitchen, where I can still see them). Dogs are not babysitters. They're not people. And all owners need to realize this. It also depends on the dog itself. My friend has a sweet tempered Pit that will cover my daughter with kisses, whereas my lab/shepherd mix has rumbled once when she rolled too close (she's seven months old, and he hasn't rumbled since he got in trouble that first time; he just goes somewhere else). Therefore, my male is never ever left alone with her, even if I'm in the other room, whereas I'm comfortable leaving my baby and my friend's Pit together in one room while I go to the next room.

You should never leave any dog alone with a child. I have 2 APBT and a German Shepherd and I would never leave my daughter unattended with them. Any dog can turn on a child, even the ones you would least expect it from. APBT are wonderful dogs if they are trained properly, they score higher in temperament tests then most dogs. Remember in the 1920's pits were the favorite family dog.Pits are people dogs, they were raised to serve people not kill them. Ignorant people and dogfighters are the ones giving pits a bad name. They were not breed to kill babies.

I would trust my own child, and my own dog. The real answer isn't from us, its from you.... How does this animal behave around children or other pets both same size or smaller? And how does the child behave around animals, can they be antagonistic (pulling ears or tails, hitting, or poking them)? Ultimately no animal or child should be alone together for any period of time (leaving the room to use the restroom, ok) but pets are not babysitters, accidents can happen any time. If you don't trust the animal, and aren't sure about how the child will act, then you have your answer....

It really depends on the dog and the child. Pitbulls have gotten such a bad rep due to ignorant people raising evil and vicious dogs. I have seen some mean chihuahuas and cocker spaniels and some of the most gentle mastiffs. Its all on the dog's behavior and temperament and if they have ever been socialized with children or other dogs. Same with the child, have they ever been around dogs or any other animals? I would depending on the situation, the child and the dog.

Nope I know 2 four year olds who were mamed by pit bulls and had to be hospitalized for a long time. 2 pit bulls in my town recently killed a shetland pony that was a gift from make a wish to a dying child.

the real question is what kind of parent will leave there child unattended?? would you leave your kid with a pet tarantula or a 12 ft boa constrictor????
