I am from Indiana, the karate tournements here are still very "traditional" and to win in a tourn. you really need to use either a bo staff or maybe a kama or sai. Bo staff, for sure, is #1. I'd say go to a tourn. in your area to just watch. Check out what most people are using and talk with those who are competing. You should be able to tell which weapon judges like most by which one most people are using. As well catch a judge or two away from the ring and talk with them and find out what they think.
Good luck with it.

The bo staff or kamas tend to score better or higher than other weapons if you are a Japanese/Okinawan stylist. If you are a Chinese stylist the soft staff, whip-chain, or three sectional staff do fairly well in competition. All these weapons are very dynamic in that they allow you to do so much more with them than say tonfa or tiger spears or some of the other weapons that are common to each of those systems. About the only exception to that is the nunchaku and while that is dynamic enough there are many kids out there that can twirl and pass them that have never studied martial arts so it does not always get the scores that the other weapons get.

RPG (Rocket Powered Grenade)

What types of weapons are allowed? Personally I'd like to use the bo-staff for greater reach.

Your brain, the most dangerous weapon we have.
The sword is one of the most dangerous tool to use, but I would use naginata or yari.

Good Luck and don't get hit...cya....

Wat? I thought karate meant you had to fight without weapons. I'd prefer nun chunks
