But now I want to get back into it and I am at a loss. I love the look and feel of Nikon's D40 but now I'm really liking Canon's EOS Rebel XT. What is the best digital camera of the two? Or does anyone know of some that are better? I know a lot is based on opinion, but I want/need the best bang for my buck! ;] Help!

Both of the two have many similar features. Right now I have a nikon D70 a love it to death, but I think the choice between the two is just prefence. If you had an unlimited budget though I think cameras like the nikon d2x and up are better, but I think the d40 can Eos rebel are a lot alike. They both are about the same price, so I would go with what you know (like if you had a nikon before and know how to use it) and just overall appeal.

Because of changing technology, don't buy either the Canon or Nikon at this time. Instead, spend the money and rent your dream camera in order to complete your assignments or whatever. Laying out more than $500 for a so-called professional camera makes no sense when in the coming months, the camera will be replaced by still another tricked out innovation. Again, you are reminded of the simple fact: most professional photographer don't own their camera equipment; they merely rent or lease camera equipment for a special occasion shoot.

Good luck!

IMO you should seriously consider the Pentax K100D Super or the K10D. The 100 has 6.1 megapixels, the 10 has 10 megapixels. Both have Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body and both have anti-dust technology to keep the sensor clean. Every Pentax K-mount lens ever made will mount on these cameras. Sure, you'll be using manual focus but you'll have a lot of excellent glass to choose from.

With IS in the body any Pentax K-mount lens you use will take advantage of it. Cameras without IS in the body offer lenses with IS - at a higher cost.

Go to a brick and mortar store and handle a few models from Nikon and Canon. One may feel better in your hands, if so, there you are. Either system would be fine. Nikon's kit lens is probably a bit superior to Canon's, but both make many fine lenses and accessories.

CN makes the most powerful megapixel 21.1 camera in the world.
I would suggest the xti later you can still use the CN lenses on a more expensive camera body if you desire.
