i was about to sign up for a survey site when the terms read that anyone paid over $600 is required to have an IRS form sent to them. even though i'm not with reading documents and stuff, i don't want to get stuck with tax issues. also, i saw on oprah how many people were tricked by false contests and sweepstakes so i'm just wondering.

Yes, to be legal, they have to send a 1099-misc to anyone making over $600 for the year, and report the earnings to the IRS. On most of those websites though, unless you manage to suck in a lot of other people to join up using you as a reference, this won't be an issue.

It is for you to check if the site is trustworthy or not.
Yes, if they pay you over $600, they will ask you to fill a IRS tax form.
