The Pope occupies the highest and holiest church office, which was originally established by Christ himself, and the Pope is the the God-ordained leader of the only church that Jesus ever founded, authorized, empowered, and eternally guaranteed.

The Pope is the last absolute monarch on the earth, and the leader of the only nation on earth that's dedicated solely to God.

The Pope has the power to bind and loose anything on earth, knowing that God will certainly do likewise in heaven.

The Pope has the power to forgive sins in Jesus name, and he also has the ability to to invoke the power of the Holy Spirit, who transforms ordinary bread and wine into the real and substantial body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ, the one time, once for all, eternal sacrifice for the sins of the world.

Based on all of this and more, if the Pope is not God's official representative on earth, than no one and nothing else could ever be.

No, I dont think he is. I believe that this pope is a very serious and sincere man who has challenged some of the old misconceptions of the catholic church, like their belief that unbaptised infants will spend eternity in "limbo". The truth is that the popes office can not be traced back to St. Peter, and if St. Peter was alive today he would not recognise the catholic church as being a continuation of the church that was founded and is headed by the Lord Jesus. Come to think of it, I doubt if he would recognise the Protestant church either!

The belief that the pope is God's representative here on Earth comes from the doctrine of Apostolic Succession, a belief that the 12 apostles have successors to whom authority has been passed by divine appointment. In the Roman Catholic Church, the bishops as a group are said to be successors of the apostles, and the pope is claimed to be the successor of Peter. It is maintained, by the Catholic church; that the Roman pontiffs come immediately after, occupy the position and perform the functions of Peter, to whom Christ is said to have given primacy of authority over the whole Church. But, this teaching is NOT found in the scriptures.

One must ask, has an unbroken line of successors been traced from Peter to modern-day popes?

Jesuit John McKenzie, when professor of theology at Notre Dame, wrote: “Historical evidence does not exist for the entire chain of succession of church authority.”*

The New Catholic Encyclopedia admits: “ . . . the scarcity of documents leaves much that is obscure about the early development of the episcopate . . . ”**

Consider that claims of divine appointment mean nothing if those who make them are not obedient to God and Christ. See Matt. 7:21-23.

In this regard, have the popes and those who have claimed to be successors of apostles adhere to the teachings and practices of Jesus Christ and his apostles?

A review of their teachings, would indicate that they do not!

The burden placed upon Priests to be celibate is a classic example. Pope Paul VI, in his encyclical Sacerdotalis Caelibatus (Priestly Celibacy, 1967), endorsed celibacy as a requirement for the clergy, but he admitted that “the New Testament which preserves the teaching of Christ and the Apostles . . . does not openly demand celibacy of sacred ministers . . . Jesus Himself did not make it a prerequisite in His choice of the Twelve, nor did the Apostles for those who presided over the first Christian communities.” See 1 Cor. 9:5, 1 Tim. 4:1-3, and 1 Tim. 3:2***

The most glaring example of the pope's and his followers deviation from the teachings of the Christ, is their position on war.

Catholic historian E. I. Watkin writes: “Painful as the admission must be, we cannot in the interest of a false edification or dishonest loyalty deny or ignore the historical fact that Bishops have consistently supported all wars waged by the government of their country. I do not know in fact of a single instance in which a national hierarchy has condemned as unjust any war . . . Whatever the official theory, in practice ‘my country always right’ has been the maxim followed in wartime by Catholic Bishops.”****

In Matt. 26:52 “Jesus then said, ‘Put your sword back, for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.’”

In summation, without beleaguering the point:

NO, the Pope is not the representative of God here on Earth!

He represents a long tradition dating back to the first recognized Pope of the Catholic Religion, Saint Peter.

His influence on the general welfare of humanity is given high importance.

Unfortunately, some Popes haven't lived up to expectations, and some were frauds.

Not many, just a few.

NO!! God is represented through all those who are His children. Know how you can be God's kid? You believe in Jesus. So....anyone on earth, no matter where they are, who has given their heart to Jesus and put their faith in Him is a representative of God. When we live the way God says we reflect well on Him. When we don't, it causes people to speak evil of God. But the Pope....he can call himself the Holy Father if he wants to but he isn't holy and he sure isn't representing God. He is a darn good representative for paganism though...most of the traditions of the church he heads up are taken from ancient paganism. Neat huh?

No, he is the head of the Roman Catholic church, appointed not by God but by the cardinals in a meeting after the previous pope dies.

No. If the popes were infalible, one would not rule one thing and another come along and change the ruling. Take the naming of St. Christopher, for instance. One said he qualified and another said he did not qualify. One or both were wrong.

They both were wrong according to the apostle Paul because he wrote to live people who were saints in the first century.
