Since you neglected to mention the name of the school its difficult to comment about it.

However, I do suggest the New York Institute of Photography (nyip.com). They offer correspondence courses and have been in business since 1910 so they are very reputable.

If you are unsure about taking online classes, go to the book store any purchase books related to the kind of photography you like to do and teach yourself. Photo magazines are good for that to with a lot of tutorials with examples and you can see what others have done. These are some cheaper alternatives.

There are two online photography schools that I have taken classes and they are both good: betterphoto.com and ppsop.com. All of the instructors are tops in their fields. It could be a little bit pricey though. They have four-week and eight-week classes (some specialty subjects are even 6-8 month long classes).
