I have a 45 ACP and was wondering if you can shoot bullets stamped 45 AUTO or if they have to be stamped 45 ACP

No, it's the same thing. ACP stands for Automatic Colt Pistol.

.45 AUTO will be fine to use,as that is what you find everywhere. Military surplus has no caliber on the headstamp, and that also can be used.
I have fired 1000s of .45 AUTO rounds and have never seen one headstamped .45 ACP. If any one has seen one, let me know who made it.

YES, what you have is the rimless .45 ACP, and you also have the .45 auto Rimmed, designed for the S&W revolvers , so they could be ejected together without punching them out one at a time, or using half moon clips..

Yep same crap, the long colt has nothing to do with these 2 rounds and both are safe t fire as long as they are soft lead core and not steal core (not common in pistol ammo anyway)
