i had to be extra careful pulling them out one by one, or my mouth would be cut into shreds. is it possible that this dream means that i need to be careful what i say?

Yes if you do say bad things, dreams are meant to tell us something are guardian angel, God, Jesus or mother mary tell us in dreams what we are doing rong.

It's a typical anxiety dream, concerning a secret you have kept or something you have buried. A memory or an event that scarred you. Discuss it and it will come back to you eventually. Probably something simple and innocent.

that would be one interpretation of your dream. another could be that someone else does not want you to talk. perhaps you know something that would be incriminate them . when you dream you dream in symbols that are created in your sub-concious to help you deal with problems in your life that you can't or won't deal with in the awake state. your sub-conscious ,whether you are awake or asleep, is always at work. it is always picking up things that are going on around you. it is possible that without you knowing it your sub-conscious has picked up something that your conscious is not aware of but your sub-conscious is trying to tell you not to talk about because it could cause serious problems for someone else.
