i was in the states and met many girls that we not even 20 and they were introducing me to their husbands and didnt understand when i said "you dont waste any time". I saw quite a few hen nights with girls not even old enough to drink. In the uk we like to think things through a little more.

yea, but they dont seem to think things through much in the states, but i found people seem to be motivated by "what other people think" in the US. in the uk when someone wants to travel the world people are saying "wow, good luck to you". In the states i have heard people say "why do you want to do that, what about your career and having a family."

you dont have to get married to move out of your parents place. Im sure theres other ways. Just seems to me they expect to be dead by 40. Just take it easy, enjoy your 20's. You dont have to do what everyone around you is doing, we have places like that in the UK with all the chav slappers. Maybe be better if they got married instead of having a kaliedoscope of kids.

miss_marie26: yea, pretty much everyone waits until 30 if they have any sense. But it suits me, i've travelled the states a few times and meet a lot of young divorced ladies in their late 20's on the rebound and with a weakness for a british accent. :)

just seems to me to be one those things that maybe in your early 20's you havn't really thought things through properly. But as i said we have plenty of girls in the uk that are getting bunk ups in the early/mid teens - one of them has even posted on here. And that is probably worse than getting married early. Depends on the society i suppose. Just dont make rash decisions that arn't to easy to get out of in the future. I know people in their 30s/40s who are regreting those decisions now. "Seemed like a good idea at the time"

I live in America. I married my husband when I was 21, I didn't do it to get out of my parents house, I had moved in with my husband(then bf) when I was 19, having already lived by myself for a year. I don't have kids, I wasn't pregnant when we got married, I married him because I love him and I knew in 5 years I would still want to marry him. I love him. why do you care at what age American girls get married anyways, why is it that the uk is so better, cause that is what you seem to be implying.

p.s. it's called ethnocentrism, look it up if you don't know what it means.

Because in the states it's not ok to do anything.....so now kids are getting pregnant/married at early ages. I'm 23 but I go an look at profiles of friends of friends on myspace and they all have kids or are married. I agree that people need to take time. I've been with the same guy for 4 years and we are just talking about marriage, and definetly not any kids for a while!

I give a hearty congratulations to Texas for doing what Utah would not do. If these adult women want to live in a polygamist society and share their husband with a new and younger bride when the first wrinkle or gray hair is seen that is their choice. But, it's is against the law to marry and or have sex with a girl not yet the age of consent. Our laws does not allow people to break the law in the name of religion.

Im am English, but from my experience in the states they seem to put a much greater emphasis on the Christian way of life (No sex before marriage etc..) Although we are a 'christian nation too, I know very few families, particually few young people that take the religion very seriously.
I know for sure if I needed to wait to have sex before marriage I would have got married even younger than I did! (I was 21 but had been with my husband since I was 15, and no he was not my first..!)

They get married so that they can leave there homes. This is commen or they find a man that is older and they are nieve and they like the sex. There are many reasons like me I got married with my husband when I was 17 I loved him so much and we are till together to this day and I am still with him

And you're right to do so. They often get married young due to pregnancy, puppy love and wanting to get out of the house.

well they find who they want to marry earlier. also where I live (small town Missouri) there are quite a few shotgun weddings. One of my friends who is 16 is married because she got preggers.

The average age for first marriages in this country is 26. Most girls do not get married before they are twenty.

And if they are in fact under twenty, you can keep your rude comments to yourself. Here in America we try to have manners.
