Check with your local social service agencies, churches, and elementary schools to ask for a list of suitable providers/agencies. Then visit those providers/agencies and observe for cleanliness, staff/child interaction, and the happiness of the children. The adult/child ratio should be quite low (I would look for not more than 5 children to 1 adult) to ensure that the children receive enough stimulation and attention.

In IL there is a government program called CHASDI that helps you find at home or public daycares. I'm sure FL also has a similar program. The local health dept might have info on it

Word of mouth can often find you great child care, but if that doesnt work take a look at the following:
Check http://www.daycarematch.com/.
Also check out http://tampa.craigslist.org/kid/. There is a place for Child Care where providers in the area can advertise.
A great resource for licensed Home Child Care providers would also be http://www.dcf.state.fl.us/childcare/.
Between all three of these I am sure you can find the best care for your little one :o).

I don't do daycare but I would think you will need to let people know where you live. Maybe you need to ask for city and state then take it off line.
