This is a good question, and deserves a star!. The previous responder however, has given the proper answer. A CMA is certified by the state and a MA certificate means you took the course.

My sister is a nurse (whose account I am using now) and she told me once that there are Physicians Assistants...which are basically one step below doctors...which are also called Medical Assistants...then there are CMA's and CNA's which are different types of certifications. A Certified medical assistant IS a Medical Assistant with a Certificate. They're the same thing from what she explained to me.
Look at the wording...it appears that they're just used in a different order...one is a name and other is a status.
Also called nursing assistants, cna's, etc. same thing.
I just enrolled in my cna certification course...so good luck to you if you are too!

Hello-good questions...a lot of people get confused with this...having a MEDICAL ASSISTANT CERTIFICATE means that you graduated from an accredited school/institution (hopefully it is accredited)...being a CERTIFIED OR REGISTERED medical assistant means you took a test (state test) that included everything you learned and is proof that you went to an accredited program and finished your externship...this allows you to be Jane Doe, RMA or Jane Doe, CMA...if you just finish a program at a school, you will hold a CERTIFICATE of completion, but it does not make you a CMA or RMA. Hope this information helps!

One is registered or certified and took the state test, the other just got their certificate from an accredited school. They do the same work and get almost the same pay. Just a title goes with the MA. You still can't work out of your scope of practices, even if some employers want you to.

I believe that medical assistants can draw blood give injections and medications in some facility's. CNA's can not. Medical assistants also go to school longer, make less money, and have a hard time finding jobs.
